House Republicans are getting ready to surrender: There will be no serious fight over the debt limit.

The most senior figures in the House Republican Conference are privately acknowledging that they will almost certainly have to pass what’s called a clean debt ceiling increase in the next few months, abandoning the central fight that has defined their three-year majority.

The “Whale of a Fight” was the September government shutdown that cratered Republican poll ratings.

They can spend at an increase of a trillion dollars per year instead of what Obama wants, which is mucho re than that

That would bring us to $20,000,000,000,000.000 debt by 2016, and then just keep going from there, if there’s no reason now to stop there won’t be any reason them to stop

That’s fourth grade math.

I can’t run for office.y situation won’t allow for it. Can somebody other tgan just Ted Cruz get in there?

The smart candidate will educate the public that money does not grow on trees. And does not come from the govt

I realize there are a lot of not as smart as fourth grader votes to buy, but there are a lot of smart people that good candidates can tap into

It’s just not going to end well if this group doesn’t get replaced. And that’s just the republicans

No it wasn't. The shutdown was manufactured by Harry Reid in response to Cruz and Lee trying to show the way for the GOP-E to fight back through the power of the purse. Boehner had promised the "whale of a fight" over the debt ceiling later when he was trying to get Conservatives to go along with funding the government before the shutdown. It was another false promise.

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can’t pay its own bills. ... I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.” — Obama3/16/2006 Floor speech in the Senate

On March 16th of 2006, Reid took the Senate floor and delivered a speech on how raising the debt ceiling was part of an “unprecedented and dangerous borrowing spree.”

Currently, the three largest U.S. budget deficits in history belong to three years of the Obama administration with the highest being $1.42 trillion in 2009.

Headlines with “GOP” usually also have the word “surrender” in them.

Are people in OH known for “false promises” or is it just Boehner?

Boehner makes Hastert look better, but I don’t know about Michel and his liberal friends. Still both are from IL.

No, Boehner has admitted that he was not all in on the shutdown. There was no “whale of a fight”. He did the absolute minimum required during the shutdown. Meanwhile, the Senate GOP was backstabbing those few conservatives actually trying to fight obamacare. You can never win a battle when you area attacked from the rear and the generals won’t fight.

This was Boehner’s plan all along. Use the shutdown drama as a reason surrender for the next 3 years.

I am surprised to see a freeper buy the beltway GOP narrative hook, line and sinker.

For the record, I too believe that the Republicans will attach something (Keystone, insurance company bailout, etc.) and then cave when Harry Reid says no.

BUT please remember, this is being reported by Politico - they are not exactly Conservative. Just because Politico says it, doesn't mean it will happen.
