The State of the Black America Pt I: The Black Man.
Thy Black Man ^ | January 28, 2014 | Darrick Herndon

One out of every three African-American men will be incarcerated at some point in their lives. In order to place this into proper context, one in every 111 white women will ever see prison walls. In accordance with the Cress Theory extolled by Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, the fear of genetic annihilation at the hands of African men continues to drive the world’s most cruel and disparate prison system. African-American men comprise 40% of America’s prison population yet make up roughly 6-7% of the total population.

Black men are not inherently criminal and Black America has to begin any discussion regarding crime and punishment at that very basic fact because this is exactly the perception that we face. Black men have to navigate a world in which their very presence has been translated to signal criminality. This paradigm was entirely planned and produced by the white supremacist power structure in America. Most Americans are aware of the Civil Rights Movement and its struggles, but most have not been paying attention to what has occurred since King died. It is almost as if they shocked us so bad by murdering him, that we didn’t want to fight anymore.

Almost immediately after Dr. King was murdered in Memphis, President Richard Nixon replaced King’s War on Poverty with his War on Drugs. Nixon’s shameful downfall and Jimmy Carter’s election delayed the game plan nationally, but the dominos were already starting to fall in places like California where Richard Nixon’s Republican successor and friend, Ronald Wilson Reagan, had begun cooperating with J. Edgar Hoover’s COINTELPRO program. Reagan used Freeway Rich Ross to push dope up and down the I-5 Corridor and his dope pushing ways would continue as he declared the new War on Drugs from Washington.

Ronald Reagan used drug sales in California to fund the Contra war in Nicaragua and to funnel weapons to the Iranians. He believed that it was acceptable to poison black people and did it with deliberate intent while he created two paradigms: the welfare queen and the dope boy. These are2014-blackmen-standing-together the characters whom he ran against in 1980 as full-swing Southern Strategy launched in historic Philadelphia, Mississippi.

Reagan’s actions set the course for black men from 1980 until now. Ronald Reagan should be considered to be a modern-day Adolph Hitler to African-Americans because as sure as Hitler used deadly chemicals and gasses to kill Jews, so did Ronald Reagan. He started are war against an enemy of his own creation and black people bought it hook, line, and sinker. Many African-Americans feel satisfaction from the same law & order reflexes that whites do and they thought that they were being tough on a problem objectively. The only problem is that drug crime was near an all time low when the War on Drugs began.

Ronald Reagan’s actions and policies created a new Jim Crow. Many African-American men are prepared for, engaged by, and eagerly ensnared into a justice system that incarcerates them at higher rates for the same offenses and for longer terms. It is a justice system ripe with bias against black bodies as the color of a crimes victim often dictates how severe the punishment. Unless of course, the offender is a black man in which case the book is likely to be thrown at him. The recent cases of a rich white 17 year old who was put on probation for killing four people in a DUI accident versus the black kid whom the very same judge sentenced to 10 years at age 14 for punching and accidentally killing someone.

One kills four people and gets probation, the other (three years younger) kills one and gets 10 years. Examples such as this are prevalent throughout the “just us” system. The cascading effects of Draconian mandatory sentencing and police incentivized by a for profit prison system and directed federal funding have created a for-profit school-to-prison pipeline in which the black male body is the chief capital. Sound familiar?

Slavery continues. Governor Piyoush “Bobby” Jindal (R) of Louisiana is highly engaged in convict labor leasing. There were black men chained together working in the hot sun for free when BP spilled oil all over the Gulf Coast. What do we call a black man working in the hot sun for a corporation for free? We call it slavery and thus we call Piyoush Jindal and all like him to be slave masters. I once heard a testimonial on the radio during the Gulf cleanup where the caller told about how Bobby Jindal was bussing prisoners to work in a turkey factory under the cover of darkness at night. Angola Prison is a modern day slave camp and African-America has to lift its head up enough to begin to see that we are still enslaved on a large scale. Jindal’s not alone is his slaving.

In addition to slavery, gerrymandering laws have made it such the black bodies in those prisons count toward the local community’s census numbers. Those communities are almost exclusively white, but the prison itself is 80% black and brown. The census count directly affects Congressional districting. Those communities receive federal funding and grants based on the size of their population so while they have black men imprisoned, they are using their circumstances to gain federal funding and political control.

Meanwhile, back in Brooklyn, you are not counted in your own census for funding or Congressional districting and your already poor neighborhood is denied funding because the census figures don’t account for 1/3rd of all black men. Most states not only severely restrict an inmate’s right to vote, but most continue to deny the ex-convict his voting rights for years after he has paid his debt to society. Of all of the states which disenfranchise black voters, 11 of the top 12 are in the South and in the former Confederate states. If you have ever wondered how the South stays Republican, well now you know.

Republicans have used their gerrymandered political power to enact restrictive voting legislation in many states and will remain in minority power until the next census in 2020 when the Congressional districts can be redrawn. Their anti-Democratic efforts are directed towards the African-American and Latino American communities explicitly though they won’t say explicitly. All of this adds up to approximately half of black and brown political power being euthanized by gerrymandering. This is the physical function of white supremacy in America at work. If black people win, change the rules immediately.

Black must be wrong and white must be right, but none must be more wrong that the black man. This is the paradigm through which Barack Obama must govern. Whatever he proposes must be wrong and they go through great lengths to convince themselves that he is. Media reflexes reflect white supremacy in the way that they cover this dysfunctional government as being on balance with regards to blame. The mainstream media will not call a spade a spade and it will not make clear to the American people exactly which group of people is standing in Barack Obama’s way.

Black men must be wrong if they are shot walking home with candy and a fruit drink. Black men must be wrong when they get shot looking for help after a car accident. White America accepts any justification for violence against black bodies. The police department involved with the Trayvon Martin found it necessary to test a dead black teenager for drugs, but not to test his shooter. Why? Because they know that you will justify his death to some degree if he was not a perfect angel. They did the same thing to Oscar Grant and every other innocent of ours whom they kill. Black men have no margin for error in American society and must be consummate performers just to survive. In America, white must be right and black must be wrong and everyone plays along, even black people.

Self-hatred continues to be a major problem for African-American men. We commit more violence against each other than any other group in America. It’s obvious to me why that is. It starts with our upbringing and all of the beatings we took with belts, switches, shoes, and whatever else. Black boys are severely disciplined while growing up because of the ingrained fear of every black parent whom is aware of the history of racism in America. Black boys of my generation came right after Emmitt Till and our parents were scarred by those publicized incidents.

I specifically say “publicized’ because these kinds of things happened often in the Deep South, but the television age brought with it a new in your face type of reality that couldn’t be obtained through the print media of the past. It was their Kennedy moment. African-Americans will defend the practice of beating our boys tooth and nail, but those who would defend that kind of treatment ought to pause for a minute and look at the results. Yes, we are more proned to violence and so are Mothers and Fathers were toward us. Violence is a learned behavior for most people so it is not at all unreasonable to understand how the parent became the field hand who had to whip the slave for the Master.

Now we try to beat them into good behavior as children instead of trying to raise them to be functioning men. The problem is that many of them remain underdeveloped children who never got the loving attention that they deserved, but instead got whelps on their buttocks. Intentions be damned. So this is how we learned to solve our conflicts. We learned early in life that the way to put another person in her/his place is through violence and we are suffering for it.

Self-hatred among black men also manifests itself in conservatism. Black conservatives tend to agree with the white majority more than they do their own people. Many of them are triggered by the law & order reflex which I mentioned earlier and many are triggered by the desire to assimilate fully into white culture due to a feeling of cultural inferiority. It is white culture to despise the vast majority of black men and so do black male conservatives. Ben Carson is a prime example as a man who openly compared the government subsidized and regulated healthcare to chattel slavery. He essentially called the first Black President a slave master. Only a failed sense of history and a total disregard for the well being of your people will allow you to take that perspective.

Anyone genuinely concerned about black people has to see the system at play and at some point in his life, Dr. Ben Carson said to himself, to hell with these negroes, I gotta get mine and he assimilated. He became the good negro…the non-threatener. It takes a great deal of white cultural appropriation to be considered a non-threatening black man aka one of the good ones. Carson has gone as far as to appropriate the politics of the very same rich white men who actually would enslave him if they could. His self-hatred allows him to ignore what the system is doing to the rest of us because if he could make it then we can right? African-Americans have to disregard anecdotal success stories like Carson’s and consider the condition of the masses, which in the black man’s case is critical.

Black men are affected by various forces: the family courts favor women over men, hiring favors black women over black men, we are targets for the police, we targets for the prison corporations, and we are targets for each other. Black men need an unapologetic advocate and this author strives to fill that role. We have so much criticism levied against us and perceptual bias levied against us that we have to stand up and fight from a position of strength. That would require us to fight this injustice system and to reclaim our women who are lost in assimilation and left without partners.

No, but it is lies and propaganda.

This so-called “advocate” offers no solutions. The real problem is the destruction of the traditional family.

Yet it was that noted racist Richard Pryor who said, "Thank God we got penitentiaries!"

Google that sentence to discover the surprising place I found it. The entire sentence, starting with the word "Yet" and ending with the word "penitentiaries."

And here I admired Dr. Carson for being intelligent and well-educated in addition to having IMO a "sane" view of politics. Always admired the black man (i.e. Hermann Cain) who rose above, became educated and succeeded. Then there are those like Dr. Hill (I believe is his name) works at Sanford or some other liberal college and still complains that he is discriminated against. Wah, life ain't all perfect for the white man and woman either. Just because your life isn't perfect doesn't mean someone is out to get you.

Darrick Herndon is clearly the poster child for the “a mind is a terrible thing to waste” advertising campaign.

No context there at all. Comparing apples to beets....
In general crimes by women as far less likely to involve violence which makes incarceration less likely. Then I don’t know of any equivalent gangs of white women to the Crips and Bloods etc. Not a very good way to try and make your point..

When you punch someone and they die, you didn’t “accidentally kill someone”... You murdered them. The initial crime was assault (a felony).

In the case of the DUI, the initial crime was DUI, A misdemeanor usualy on the first offense.

Articles like this require a Toxic Hurl alert. I actually read part of this, thinking it might offer a critical examination of the state of black males in the country. Instead I was treated to a litany of cliches and shopworn rhetoric so thin the wind blew through.

Now I need brain bleach and a Vulcan mind meld to help me forget.

Unless I'm confused, drug testing is a standard part of every autopsy.

I don't know whether Z was tested or not. I would think he certainly should have been.

The more relevant statistic is that AA men commit roughly 40% of the crime.

Black men are not inherently criminal

Could have fooled me.

Seriously, this is the crux of their entire philosophy. Its never their fault and its only White racism that puts the Black in jail.

The State of the Black America
That should be either The State of Black America - or - The State of the Black American.
BTW, I defy anyone to show me a map where Black America exists.

One of the most difficult things to do is question your most deeply held convictions. This author has failed to do this.

As Sir Frances Bacon said, “Man prefers to believe what he prefers to be true.” This very basic human trait has been exploited by Democratic politicians who are the cultural heirs of the slave trade and of the Klan; they carry on the tradition of deriving profit from lies, manipulation and other forms of exploitation of people in general.

Lastly, it’s a bit annoying to say the least hearing the author’s very ignorant attempt at explaining the thought process of black conservatives. Such a shallow intellect wouldn’t last longer than a few seconds in debate with any of our prominent black conservatives.

So what, exactly, does he think the black man's role is in society if he doesn't aspire to get an education and work hard (i.e., "act white")? Is he just supposed to stay in a perpetual aggrieved state? Suppose after a period of time things are more "equal"? What is an uneducated, unmotivated black man supposed to do then?

I have spent my IT career at large corporations. Believe me, to meet AA quotas, they go begging for black men to hire and promote. They're just not there! Black women, yes. Most have done very well. Smart black women go to college and the men go to jail. Our society's war on men has hit black men the hardest.
