You’re exactly right. When JD Hayworth ran against him in the primary it was reported that McCain spent $23 million of his (wife’s) money defeating him. My question is why? A senate seat worth that much of a person’s personal wealth?

“A senate seat worth that much of a person’s personal wealth?”

Ego.

I couldn’t find his name on the list above of Senators who died in office, but my recollection was that Strom Thurmond was in his 90’s and obviously not long for this world. There were numerous photos of him in the Senate, asleep with drool coming out of his mouth. The governorship had just changed from R to D in his state and the party begged him to resign so they could appoint an R. He refused, and died just after the D took charge. They, of course, appointed a D.

So, ego.

You don’t seem to understand human emotions do you ?

suppose you own a furniture store for 30 years and then someone you know opens one up next to you.

Your response is to lower your price until your competitor dies.

I believe his idea is to hang onto the seat long enough, that his daughter gets to the right age, and he can just leave the seat to the daughter. I know this sounds awful stupid....but this is the one of the three three most dim senators that we have today.
