There is no Senate race in the country that is more important than the Republican primary election in Kentucky between Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and conservative businessman Matt Bevin (R-KY).
The outcome of the Republican primary in Kentucky will determine the direction of the Republican Party for years to come.
If Mitch McConnell wins, the party will continue to drift away from its conservative principles and become increasingly hostile to the grassroots. But if Matt Bevin wins, the establishment’s stranglehold over the party will be broken and power will be restored to the people who elect these politicians.
We have several things to report on this race and we hope you will take a few minutes to read this important update.
Mitch McConnell likes to tell his Beltway friends that Matt Bevin isn’t a credible candidate, but the truth is Bevin is one of the most compelling Republican candidates running anywhere in the country.
If he were running in any other race, the party would be holding him up as their top recruit. It’s only because he’s running against the leader of the Republican establishment that they attack him.
Politico published a major profile article on Bevin’s campaign last week, a clear sign that the national media is beginning to take him seriously.

This race is possibly THE most important race in 2014.
A) Mitch is very likely to lose the general and we can’t afford to let that happen.
B) Replacing the minority leader would be game changing. Never has there been a better opportunity.

And Mitch probably knows this. So his mission now is to prevent a conservative from getting into the senate by defeating Bevin in the primary.
If he had an ounce of honor, he’d just resign
Agree that Mitch must go and it would send a strong message to the GOPe. However, I’m not confident that it would break the establishment’s stranglehold over the party.
There are deep seated and entrenched moneyed interests within the party that control it and dominate its “culture” of defeatism and its inclination to support more and bigger government. Attempting to eradicate that embedded culture is going to be a lot harder than most people think. Those interests will fight back with all they have. We’ve already seen that.
The GOP is not the answer IMHO. We need another party.
I would like to know who among the big donors is the primary support for McConnell and for Boehner. It seems our fight should also be with them.

This is why the Founders insisted on men of impeccable character: that they could neither be bribed nor blackmailed.
That poll was done a couple of weeks ago if I remember, and the gap closed rapidly as Bevin’s name ID went up. It’s about name recognition, and his money from the SCF will likely close the gap further.
Mourdock was 15 points behind Lugar at one point. This is doable.
I hope that it is doable. Mourdock was holding statewide elective office.
If it is not, I’m guessing that the seat will be gone, as the Dems will want to be in good position to either hold or re-take the Senate, and there likely will be only a half-dozen or so seats where money could make the difference, and this will be one of them if McC wins the primary. Still, if McC wins the primary, it will be ironic as likely he will either loose while seeing the Pubs take the Senate or loose and see that his stubbornness in holding onto the seat is what prevented them from taking the Senate.
It’s not worth the price of admission, but if McC insists on buying, one might as well enjoy the show.

Agreed. Third Party required. The money and control of the GOP is way too entrenched. “Taking it over” just is not possible. We can keep nipping at it’s heals, and so we should, but that’s a loser in the end. It should be a step toward something greater.

That’s the bottom line. The entrenched interests have a lot more money than we do.
