Did Showdown Kill Boehner's Immigration Dreams?

Immigration is the zombie of political issues--even when it is dead, it is still alive. The combination of the Democratic Party, business interests, and a GOP operative class yearning for its promise of improved standing with Hispanic voters means that you can never really count it out.

That said, it is hard to imagine Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) moving forward after yesterday's closed-door showdown. According to estimates from those who were in the room--both in favor of moving forward and against--the dozens of GOP lawmakers who spoke were at least 80-20 against bringing a bill to the floor this year.

There is a palpable sense of disappointment among those interested in moving forward. In private conversations, the word that is used is that the meeting was "predictable." The same people in the GOP conference who kept Boehner from moving on a bill in 2013 are just as opposed in 2014.

Immigration hawks, meanwhile, sense they scored a major victory.

"I don't understand why House leadership would bring this issue up now," Rep. Jeff Duncan of South Carolina (R) tells me, adding, "After yesterday, that feeling is strengthened based on the overwhelming pushback from Conference meeting attendees."

Boehner himself, despite having almost single-handedly resurrected immigration reform from life support over the last two months, was surprisingly tepid in his remarks to the conference.

He even suggested this is just not in the cards.

The issue was just driven deeper underground to gather strength and reemerge again.

Boehner is a traitor to his party and the United States. He has not one redeeming quality.

Amnesty is more likely to happen with a Republican Senate.

Obama lauching all these executive orders actually gives a glimpse of what a Boehner-McConnell amnesty would permanently achieve.

If Republicans only get 49 instead of 51 Senate seats that might make amnesty less likely.

Something along the lines of what Boehner said is eventually going to be pushed in a Republican controlled Senate.

is threatening Major Corporations with punitive measures if they do not capitulate to his BLANKET AMNESTY AGENDA.
Major Corporations in turn are pressuring Chamber Of Commerce to get in line with the Agenda.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is SPENDING MILLIONS of dollars lobbying Washington politicians to import more foreign workers and cheap labor.

I am hoping that Boehner’s dreams of remaining House Speaker were killed by this AMNESTY bullsh*t.

He is by far and away the worst and most ineffective (Regublican) Speaker that I can think of. He makes Denis Hastert look good.

If the GOP-e wants immigration reform, support a conservative for POTUS and win the Senate. If a conservative bill is offered with a law abiding POTUS in office then it will get support.

The problem is it's always a liberal bill that's offered and it doesn't fix the problems at the border.

Does Paul Ryan have a primary opponent? If not then someone needs to stand up to this faux-Conservative!

Obama will LIE, CHEAT, and STEAL, on ANY conditions that Republicans put in a new immigration law.

There is NO REASON TO NEGOTIATE WITH OBAMA, because YOU will NEVER get what YOU negotiated.

DO NOT GIVE OBAMA ANYTHING!

If you want to do “something”, then impeach him.

I wonder if the Chamber of Commerce is also facing ‘pushback’?

It might explain Boehner’s tepidness all of a sudden. Or maybe he just got the latest poll results on his primary and they might not be in his favor.

Please take a look at the list of Republican Representatives below:

Jeff Denham (Calif.)
Joe Heck (Nev.)
Dave Reichert (Wash.)
Paul Ryan (Wis.)
Aaron Schock (Ill.)
Dan Webster (Fla.)

http://damien.net/?p=2334

These six Representatives all support a pathway to citizenship for law-breaking illegal aliens. Not only that, but all six are being helped and supported by Organizing for America, a group associated with Barack Obama’s campaign organization.

I sincerely hope each of these Republican Representatives faces staunch criticism, followed by strong primary opponents in the 2014 midterm election.
