NBC Edits Democratic Atlanta Mayor Out of Snowstorm Controversy, Blames GOP Governor
Newsbusters ^

At the top of Thursday's NBC Nightly News, anchor Brian Williams proclaimed that "the [Republican] governor of Georgia [Nathan Deal] chose to fall on his snow shovel" over how Tuesday's rare southern snowstorm "was handled, or better yet, mishandled" in the state. However, the coverage that followed failed to mention Atlanta's Democratic Mayor Kasim Reed by name even once. [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

In his report, correspondent Tom Costello declared: "A lot of anger directed toward city and state officials for failing to heed the weather forecasts. And today we learned that both the Governor and the director of the emergency services for the state were sleeping as those forecasts grew even more dire." Those "city officials" were not specified.

NBC News is the Justin Bieber of the news networks — a train wreck every day.

I hereby nominate NBC and its affiliates for the 2014 Goebbels Award for excellence in totalitarian propaganda.

Sure — local governments can do more but this is ridiculous. In Birmingham I am not sure when we had an event like this that trapped people in cars for 12 hours - if ever. We have had occasional ice storms but this was unexpected and a lot of people were trapped. Maybe 1982 was close? There was major ice / snow events in the 1990s but there was more lead time.

This notion that government has to ensure rare events don’t happen is absurd. What are they supposed to do — keep sand on every road in a state when the temperature falls below 32?

Oh, yeah. MSNBC did an in depth analysis last night about how it was all the fault of white racists.

It was a scene very reminiscent of Obama. After Governor Deal stood there and took the blame and responsibility and pledge to correct future responses, Kaseem Reed pulled an Obama.

Drive on the parts of I-285 within the city of Atlanta at night and you will quickly notice the freeway lights are turned off.

I guess he commands the GDOT, and GEMA, State Police, etc.

The one thing I will say is that he did not stand up there like Obama and Mayor Reed blaming anyone but himself. He admitted his error and promised he’d not let that happen again. I believe him.

More reason for NBC to be at the bottom of the trusted list.

City plows plow city streets, county plows plow county roads, state plows plow state highways. That’s the way it works around here. Of course, in the south they don’t have that many plows to make it all work.

The Amish have been running the City of Atlanta and Fulton County for over 30 years and they don’t do it well.
