THE WORST REPUBLICAN SENATOR: Lindsey Graham's Sorry Record
The American Spectator ^ | May 15, 2008 | Quin Hillye

THE WORST REPUBLICAN SENATOR Lindsey Graham's sorry record.

By Quin Hillyer – South Carolina's Lindsey Graham is a flop. He pretends to be a conservative, but sells out conservatives and insults them while doing so. He pretends to be effective at reaching across party lines, but the only thing he effectively does is help the other party. He inhabits the Senate seat of Strom Thurmond, legendary for great attention to his South Carolina constituents, but Graham spends most of his time trailing behind John McCain like a valet as McCain criss-crosses the country in pursuit of the presidency. He called Ted Kennedy "one of the most principled men I've ever met." In sum, in the words of conservative movement stalwart Richard Viguerie, "Lindsey Graham is part of the problem."

What, for example, could possibly have possessed Graham, in April of 2006, to write an essay for Time magazine about the virtues of Hillary Clinton? He called her "a smart, prepared, serious senator." She is "sought out by her colleagues to form legislative partnerships." She has managed to "build unusual political alliances with...conservatives."

He praises liberals, but reserves particular venom for conservatives who disagree with him. The most infamous example came at a speech to the utterly radical Hispanic group La Raza -- it was bad enough that he spoke to them, much less what he said -- when he described what he would do to opponents of the awful immigration proposal he helped Ted Kennedy craft:

"We're going to tell the bigots to shut up." The idea that only a bigot could oppose the Kennedy amnesty plan was a recurring theme with Graham: he told George Stephanopoulos that opponents were like those in earlier years who put up signs that said "No Catholics, no Jews, no Irish need apply."

People here are not “uninformed” ... with the Tea Party going strong and rebuking Graham repeatedly, people (thanks to the “education” of the Tea Party) know what he is. Lee Bright is emerging as the choice.

Hahahaha. Jerk who needs to be replaced? Hell yes. The worst Republican Senator. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.

I realize he's a little bitch boy Jr. McCain (who himself is worse than Graham) who loves to trash his own side as has drifted more and more away from his formerly fairly steadfast record (when he was in the House). Maybe he isn't gay as generally believed, maybe he is sexually gratified by media attention, that would explain it. But his voting record compares extremely favorably to the likes of SUSAN COLLINS, MARK KIRK, and LISA MURKOWSKI to name only 3.

He's not even the worst GOP Senator up this year besides the liberal Collins, Thad Cochran and Lamar! Alexander also have more liberal voting records. Lamar is loathed by TN freepers but doesn't get the national attention of Graham. Cochran gets almost no attention at all because he doesn't run his mouth. He's flown under the radar all these years as a RINOish ultra-establishment Senator from a Southern GOP state because he's quiet and does all his damage behind the scenes in committee meetings that no one pays attention to. Another quiet pork-loving establishment Senator is John Thune of heavily GOP South Dakota. Some freepers profess to adore him and pimp him for VP or even President probably because he beat Dasshole and is "photogenic".

Our disdain should be more proportionate. Graham might be the one you would most like to sock in the jaw but he's not the worst and his quieter cousins should be just as zealously targeted for defeat.

Of the 3 A-class RINOs I mentioned early in this post, Lisa Murkowski, coming from GOP Alaska should be the most vigorously hated. Witch went around the party to "win" after losing the primary.

I have to jump inhere.

Yes those others have made more votes with Dems than Grahamnesty did, they voted to end DADT in military whicjh irked me. But look at the lib states who elected them.

Grahamnesty is outright deceitful.

In 2011 he got on a Sunday network show and said “Maybe we should change the US constitution to end birthright citizenship” for no other purpose than to stir things up on the amnesty side, play acting against illegals , now he calls us racist for opposing amnesty under Obama.
Grahamnesty is one of the worst deceitful snakes in congress.

Grahamnesty is still on the top of my list.

Wow, that it’s that old. (the thread is not, Steelfish posted it on Friday) makes it even dumber.

In 2008 we has Olympia Snowe, Dick Lugar, and Bob Bennett in the Senate too.

And Graham has done a more bad stuff and had more diarheia of the mouth since 2008 then he did before.

Collins and Kirk are from liberal states and have “an excuse”. None of the others I mentioned are.

But you’re point about the damage of his big mouth is well taken.

You’re right, on all counts.

I spotted this thread either yesterday or sometime earlier today (Saturday) and thought ... 2008 ... WTH?

I agree with Impy on most counts, although I haven’t looked at Cochrane closely enough to determine whether he is worse than Graham.

One of the reasons why Graham is such an inviting arget is the fact that SC has primary runoffs, which will prevent him from being renominated with a plurality wurh the anri-Graham vote getting splintered.
