NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- Tickets sold out two months in advance to see Sen. Ted Cruz speak tonight at the greater New Braunfels Chamber banquet.

About 830 people showed up to listen his keynote speech.

"One thing I have been trying to do every day serving in the Senate is stand up for 26 million Texans and fight to defend the constitution, fight to keep this administration accountable for its repeated abuse of power and its disregard of the law," Cruz said.

The chamber said tonight's event helped the non-profit raise about $30,000 to $40,000.

"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

"A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." - Thomas Paine 1792

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

So, where does the support for Cornyn emanate?

Why can't Texas have two Senators who exhibit strong support for the Constitution?

Cornyn is a known entity and the country club republicans would rather stick with what they have. Can you imagine inviting Steve Stockman over to the CC for a round of golf? Oh, the horror!

for pure entertainment, I’m looking forward to the senate hopefuls debates here in TX. At least Kinky Friedman isn’t running for office this time around.

I wouldn’t think Cornball would “debate” any of the five. I wouldn’t think there will be Senate debates. We had a lieutenant governor debate last week, and I thought all did well except for Dewhurst. I lean Patrick.

You’re right, Stockman is too much of a “little guy” though I think he is physically large, for the country clubbers. Don’t the UT country clubbers feel the same way about Mike Lee? TX Republicans are basically elitist or would-be elitists. But somehow they lost interest in Dewhurst in 2012.

I think scooby321 meant neither Paul nor Rubio is the real deal, only Cruz is the real deal.

Thanks for all the Cruz pings.
