Sometimes, even the US eats its words.
State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki took to Twitter Sunday to defend the remarks of US Secretary of State John Kerry, who threatened Israel with boycotts if peace talks fail.
"Todays status quo absolutely, to a certainty, I promise you 100 percent, cannot be maintained. Its not sustainable. Its illusionary," Kerry stated on Saturday night at the Munich Security Conference. "You see for Israel theres an increasing de-legitimization campaign that has been building up [. . .] there are talk of boycotts and other kinds of things. Are we all going to be better with all of that?"
Kerry's comments were widely perceived as threats by not only the media, but the Israeli government. Both Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sharply criticized Kerry's comments.
"Attempts to impose a boycott on the State of Israel are immoral and unjust," Netanyahu stated, at the opening of his weekly cabinet meeting. "Moreover, they will not achieve their goal. First, they cause the Palestinians to adhere to their intransigent positions and thus push peace further away. Second, no pressure will cause me to concede the vital interests of the State of Israel, especially the security of Israel's citizens.

if Bibi doesn’t send Kerry home soon, it will be a real signal that he’s about to sell Israel out for good
Was he for threatening Israel before he was against it?

Do collectivist Jews in Israel feel no kinship for fellow observant Jews?
I have no idea. From the sound of your leading question, I'm inclined to say no.
But, now that you mention it, Israel is somewhat of a Socialist country, isn't it?
Yes, Israel is run by Leftists. If a non-collectivist Jew fights back against Arabs in self-defense within Israel’s borders they are treated worse in jail/prison than the Muzzies.
There are so many examples of the Israeli government treating observant Jews badly the list list would be a mile long.
But there is a huge demographic shift going on with Jews both in America as well as in Israel.
Secular, Leftist, collectivist, Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist Jews are having 0-2 children per family while the Orthodox are having 2-4 children, and Chassidic/Haredi are having 4-10 children per family.
Eventually Jews on the Left will breed themselves out of existence.
Agree w you! Added to which, we have the Swiftboaters to thank that Kerry didn’t become POTUS. Rove wanted to play nice, and didn’t like the Swiftboaters at all. He tried to distance Bush’s campaign from them. But they are what took down Kerry’s favorables and raised his unfavorables. We will always owe them a massive debt.
I don’t intend to use my computer right now, and I don’t intend to read this thread, and I don’t intend to write a reply... but, sometimes it just happens, right JF’nK?
A good glass of wine works for me :)
My mother was half Hebrew, and she was a big time leftist. She believed everything the press had said about how wonderful communism was when she was young. After the breakup of the USSR and the truth came out about the millions that had died under it, she just couldn’t believe it.
I have been conservative all my life, most likely because I saw from an early age from my parents the insanity of leftists.
That information hasn't phazed millions of them one bit.
Jews in America (and many other places) are not to be confused with Zionists. They really don’t like Israel very much, and they are pretty consistent about that. Non-Jewish liberals pretty much hate Israel through and through.
That’s why they are all just fine and dandy about Iran getting a bomb. They are so sure Iran would use it against “The Little Satan” (Whom they hate anyway) and leave “The Great Satan” alone. They are quite deluded. I can only hope they are in NYC when the Iranians light the big candle.
(If you live in NYC, I hope you are on vacation at the time.)
Many, if not most Jews, had come to America decades before the Holocaust for the very reason that anti-semitism in Europe was so very strong and could easily result in the loss of your livelihood or even your life (pogroms, for example). In my grandfather's generation (the early 1900s), Jews who had been observant in Europe found themselves in a situation in America where they could not have Saturdays off to observe the Sabbath. Those who were devoutly Orthodox found themselves basically looking for a new job every week after being fired for not showing up on Saturday. There were plenty of Jews from Europe who therefore took the easier route and simply worked on the Sabbath. They gradually dropped off the rest of their observance and became assimilated, even marrying non-Jews.
After the Holocaust, with the influx of Jewish refugees from the camps coming to America, there was a transmission of their fear of being found out to be a Jew to their children and subsequently to their grandchildren. In Boro Park, Brooklyn, where a great many Holocaust survivors settled after the war, there is STILL a fear of dogs, especially German Shepherds, among the Jews, descendents of Holocaust survivors. Dogs had been used to find hidden Jews or to herd them toward the "showers" and their death. When I had occasion to visit that neighborhood, my casual petting of a dogwalker's large dog was regarded by horrified onlooking Chassidim as though I was petting a lion or a leopard.
"Jew" was, and still is, a pejorative in America. Many people unfortunately have striven therefore to blend in; their Jewishness was a burden to them rather than a gift from G-d. My own mother was always trying to drop her Jewishness and take up non-Jewish practices such as hanging stockings at Xmastime. I did not respect her for that at all. I was, and am, very proud to be a Jew. She couldn't understand it. To her, it was a mark of "being different" and she didn't want any part of being different.
Therefore, with the overwhelming assimilation of American Jews for the aforementioned reasons, not only did they discard Jewish religious practices but also their feeling toward Israel. If you are not reciting prayers from the Siddur (Jewish prayerbook) with their numerous references to Israel or reading the beautiful psalms composed by King David with their ever-present references to Israel, or observing the holidays which originated in Israel, you will not have any appreciation for who you are as a Jew. Israel, rather than being the center of your universe, is just another country and a pain in the butt one at that, because it is the center of such controversy. And you, trying to blend in and not be singled out for "Jew"! references, have lost your connection with your origins.
As King David said in Psalm 137,
"O Jerusalem, if I should forget you, may my right hand lose its cunning.
May my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth if I remember you not,
If I do not set Jerusalem above my chiefest joy.
No wonder these assimilated Jews have little feeling for the welfare of Israel. And mischannel their natural Jewish compassion toward liberal causes and candidates, having swallowed the ancient accusations hook, line, and sinker, leading to "Jewish guilt" for things they never did.
Yes, but keep in mind, he does the regime’s bidding!
He serves at the pleasure of the President, and one can fairly surmise that EVERYTHING John Effing Kerry says and does is VERY tightly scripted by the LIEberal thugs infesting the White House and Executive branch!
The fact that he is not his own man is telling, wouldn’t you say?
He is a scumbag! He always has been a scumbag! And, he will always BE a scumbag!
Obama is deeply and poisonously anti-Semitic, I grant you that. Otoh, Kerry does shoot off his mouth. When he first claimed that Syria cd avoid a military strike by giving up its WMD, the WH went into a tizzy. The offer was unscripted and unauthorized, and the administration had no earthly idea what to do w it. Then Putin picked it up, and in the end Obama used it to weasel out of his ‘red line’ commitment. But when the words first left Kerry’s mouth, the panic and chaos [in the WH] were palpable.
Very astute comments. But there are indeed some of us out here who are Jewish, seemingly assimilated, not very religious, conservative and very supportive of Israel — more than many think.
john Kerry hasn’t meant a word he has said since he was born
...and if his first word was dada or mama, he wasn’t sure about either.
So his excuse is that he’s stupid?
How did I escape being a vapid leftist Jew raised in this country? Good question. I was in a Reform synagogue with a liberal rabbi. My parents were democrats. I was primed to follow the easy path of progressivism. But I began seriously thinking about the world in my mid teens, commencing a lifelong interest in history. This is what saved me from the shallow ideological mediocrity that bedevils so many of our US co-religionists. History. Not PC pseudo-history, but the real stuff, using, in many cases, primary sources in original languages.
I also believe in right and wrong, in making moral judgments. The case for Israel is good and right. Their cause is the morally correct one. The Islamists are wrong; they are evil in their methods and intents.
It is my firm contention that one cannot be an honest, decent man with a good grasp of history and still be a leftist. The greatest ills of mankind have come from the evils of strong government.
