Did Al Franken really cast the '60th vote' for Obamacare?
Star Tribune ^ | 1/05/14 | KEVIN DIAZ

So who did cast the critical 60th vote for the Affordable Care Act, a k a “Obamacare”?

Facing a new election year, the GOP has an answer ready to go: U.S. Sen. Al Franken, the Minnesota Democrat whose 2008 recount victory over Republican Norm Coleman helped alter the balance of power in national politics.

With the rocky rollout of healthcare.gov, Minnesotans can expect to hear a lot about the symbolic 60th vote; for example, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann recently penned an opinion piece calling Franken “a leading cheerleader and the 60th vote for Obamacare.”

But in a body of 100 senators, Franken is hardly the only contender for the distinction. Not to mention that in the end, the essential finishing touches of the health care law passed the Senate — thanks to some tricky legislative maneuvering — with a mere 56 votes, not 60.

Do not forget who the “mother” of Obamacarw is...Olympia Snowe (R-ME) who was the critical vote moving it out of a committee...the last place it could be stopped before a Democrat controlled congress voted for it. She pushed it Down the slippery slope and started it on its way...thank you Sen Snowe!

The democrat people’s victory army has 3 things we lack: Special Operations, Artillery and Air Support.

That is Academia, Hollywood and The Media.

Think about it and you will understand that we have nothing measurable on our side except reality and hard knocks.

Those Minnesotans who voted for Al because the professors that taught them would have, the movies and TV shows they watched let them know Republicans weren’t cool and the media forever reporting biasedly against Republicans means that now they must face our weapons of reality and hard knocks — expensive policies, huge deductibles, no more family doctor and death panels for Grannie. Hey, we told ‘em so...

Let them suck it for awhile. You reap what you sow.

That's half of it.

The other half is that the rats will vote for any rat candidate, no matter how bad or crazy.

Many repubs sit on their hands and stay home on election day if the repub candidate isn't EXACTLY what they want.

In effect, "party pouters", who, by their stupidity, cause the rat to be elected.

There was also the Minnesota version of Ross Perot in the race...neither Coleman nor Franken had close to 50% of the vote.

I’ve been trashed on here many times but I’ll say it again:

Democrats will coalesce around 70% agreement.
Conservatives will shred each other over the last 10%.

Some people should never be elected to office. Al Franken is one of them! Reap what you sow Mn!
It’s just too bad we have to suffer with you because of your selection!

Reap what you sow would be fine if he was governor.
Unfortunately this clown is deciding laws for all of us.

To be fair to Minnesota, anybody with two functioning brain cells know he stole the election...rather than being elected

Why they didn't tar and feather him for stealing it, is another story...

That's BS. We've voted for these RINOS that shit on us every chance they get and side with Dems. See my post above about Judas Specter. Look at how the current crop are dying to pass amnesty. With RINOs like these, who needs 'rats?

Do they still have roll calls any more?

Some history books say that Edmund Ross of Kansas was the 19th and crucial vote to acquit Andrew Johnson. Of course he was not last alphabetically - Saulsbury (D-DE), Trumbull (D-IL), Van Winkle (Unionist-WV), and Vickers (D-MD) voted to acquit. He was the only Republican to vote to acquit.

You could just as easily say that Vickers vote was the 19th.

Maybe you have, but I know many, particularly religious folks, who stay home if a candidate isn't anti-abortion.

Throw them ALL out. And it’s better than they deserve. Everyone who voted for that dreck is a literal murderer.

There is no 60th vote. Anyone who voted for it could have been the 60th vote. Reality is that all 60 were the 60th vote.

It wasn't Franken. If we think back we'll recall the death and decent into hell of the Senior Senator from Chappaquiddick. To fill the seat, temporarily, our esteemed (by some) Governor (a lifelong pal of Osama Obama himself) appointed some worthless punk whose name I can't recall. Then Scott Brown, whose campaign consisted of “I'll vote against Obama Care” was elected but Dirty Harry delayed his taking the seat until after the vote.
