Seahawks fans take to Seattle streets to celebrate Super Bowl win

SEATTLE, W.Va., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Seahawks fans took to the streets of Seattle Sunday night to celebrate their team's first Super Bowl victory, dancing, drinking and cheering around bonfires.

The celebratory rowdiness broke out on Greek Row near the University of Washington campus, Pioneer Square in the city's downtown and Capitol Hill, the Seattle Times reported. The impromptu festivities included the blasting of car horns, smashing of champagne bottles and the lighting of fireworks as crowds blocked intersections, the newspaper said.

People waved team flags, yelled and high-fived strangers.

Hundreds of people had congregated outside CenturyLink Field, where the Seahawks play their home games, as Seattle police in riot gear watched.

No serious problems had been reported by mid-evening, the Times said.

"I've been waiting all my life for this," Jim Jorgensen of Normandy Park told the newspaper. "Now I'll die a happy man."

Another fan in the sea of blue Seahawks jerseys, Marcus Reed, said Seattle's 43-8 win over Denver in New Jersey "was a hell of a game!"

"I'm on Cloud 9 right now," Reed said. "

Jona Bergman, 32, of Seattle said the experience was unprecedented for him and he didn't "even know how to feel."

"I kind of feel the urge to flip over that car, but I'm too passive aggressive to do it," he said.

Spencer Harwood of Vancouver, British Columbia, said even though he and his friends are from neighboring Canada, "We're so proud and happy!"

I’m leaning towards riots as the most likely outcome. I’m hoping the Seattle folks keep themselves together though.

Seattle people riot?

Oh yeah, they’ll occupy all the coffee shops.

It’ll be gory.

I was down there in the middle of it because we have a place in Pioneer Square. People are just euphoric! We had to celebrate...it’s been a long time coming, and even sweeter since so many predicted we’d lose. I thought we had a good chance but never did any of us expect a blowout.

YEEHAW!

Close to riot here, but the police presence put a damper on it.

My wife seldom watches football with me, but today she was glued to the TV and I have never seen her so excited about a football game. It was just exciting play after play by the Seahawks defense and offense. 43:8 final score is just amazing!

Is this Pajama Boy? Did the Seattle Police provide therapists? Good grief!

It had to be really fun if you were a Seahawks fan. I, however, would have liked to see a closer game. If I was a Seahawks fan, I would have been in Heaven.

You got it. It was all over when one of the Seahawk players scored the touchdown at 21.

I, personally, have no dog in the fight. BUT, this is the type of game I prefer. I hate close games. I want to see one team get utterly destroyed by the other in any game.
