Bill Clinton Arrives to Calm Democratic Bed-Wetting
By Jeff Zeleny @jeffzeleny Follow on Twitter Feb 5, 2014 12:42pm
The bed-wetting has begun. It may not be a pleasant image, but thats the phrase used inside Obamaworld when Democrats start worrying about their political fortunes. And nine months before the midterm elections, the worry is intensifying, particularly given the latest batch of bad news for the new health care law.
David Plouffe, the presidents former campaign manager and top political adviser, first coined the term bed-wetting back in 2008 when Democrats began openly fretting about their political challenges. He said the mood today inside the party is starting to remind him of the same moment.
When asked whether the bed-wetting phase of the 2014 campaign season was starting, he laughed and declared: Ha. Of course it is.
Democrats are indeed anxious, particularly with Republicans only six seats away from winning control of the Senate in November. By any calculation, its a tough political map. Democrats are defending Senate seats on unfriendly terrain across the South and other states where President Obama either lost decisively or struggled to win. This sets the stage for a contentious closed-door policy retreat and strategy session today that Senate Democrats are having with the president. In addition to Obama, the guest speaker is Bill Clinton, who is poised to deliver a speech, take questions and try to coach jittery Democrats how to keep their heads up during a rocky midterm election year.
Only a week after the president urged Democrats in his State of the Union address to get back on the offensive in the health care fight, a new CBO report puts them back on defense.

Extremely interesting title. Why would one vote for bed-wetting politicians and trust them to run the country?
He’ll tell them, “you better put some ice on that.”
Wow. I thought that might be a bit of creative writing on your part, BUT...
ABC said that! Expect multiple IRS audits in an effort to re-educate the network peons.
New rules!!!!
:-)
Bill Clinton believes in soiling the bed in other ways. The Democrats have been soiling Americans in the fashion of Clinton, and now that Americans want off that bed, the master comes to change our minds.
I heard Slick will be delivering his “How To Pick Up Chicks 101” lecture.
It must be pretty bad when they gotta reach out to this guy for hope.
“If you like yer soiled britches, you can keep them. Period.”
The thing is, Bush could have KEPT the base if ONLY he would have FOUGHT BACK against the liars in the media and the Democrat party.
He could have fought back AND kept the office of the Presidency dignified.
He didn’t, and neither did his successor to the nomination, Juan McInsane.
That discouraged the base.
If they voted for the healthcare law, They’re in trouble and there’s no way around it. They know this.
It’s quite telling that the Dems aren’t looking to the current ‘leader’ of their party to steady their troops. Even they know that Obie’s a complete failure, and that he’s become totally radioactive.
You’ll never hear them admit it in public, but they all know it, and privately acknowledge the fact.
If Obie was even partially successful, he would have gently pulled both sides of the country towards some sort of middle ground. Instead, he’s deepened the divide in the country, and has done inestimable damage to those who are tied to his coat tails.
It’s a sign of complete desperation that they’re running back to their old daddy for reassurance.
Oh I agree, Bush could have kept his base.
I would sure like to know why he ignored them.
If Bush successfully blasted them on one issue, they pivot and turn to another...again and again and again.
Bush decided to put most of his energies into national security and speaking up for the forces. A President has only limited political capital and must decide what his priorities are.
