Is Scott Walker the Answer?
Yahoo News via Daily Beast ^ | 02/05/2014 | By David Freedlander

With Chris Christie still stuck in a traffic scandal at the foot of the George Washington Bridge, the donors and Main Street Republicans who make up the bulk of the GOP center-right establishment can be forgiven for feeling a little nervous.

If Christie fades, this cohort, which boosted both Mitt Romney and John McCain to the nomination, fear that a Tea Party-fueled candidate will take over the party, leading to a drubbing at the hands of the Democrats come November 2016.

Thus hopes have turned to Jeb Bush as a possible savior, even though the Florida governor has been out of office for seven years. It’s why Paul Ryan is practically being dragged into the race, even though the Wisconsin congressman and former vice-presidential nominee seems set on staying in the House. It’s why there have even been rumbles that even Romney is considering another go, his two-time rejection by the American public notwithstanding.

So without other options, can the establishment learn to love Scott Walker?

The controversial Wisconsin governor is slated to come and hobnob with top New York donors this spring, and he has quickly become a top draw for radio and TV bookers now that Christie has gone mostly silent. And although Walker’s public persona as a cultural warrior for the Tea Party became cemented after his efforts to strip the union public sector of collective bargaining rights, for many, his appeal actually lies in the fact that he may be one of the few Republicans running who can sway independent voters.

Personally, our approach to our border and immigration these last two presidents looks like entrapment.

When I got out of real estate, there were all sorts of GuvCo backed loans for ILLEGAL ALIENS to buy homes here.

There are how many self-identified "Sanctuary Cities" in the country?

I think a reasonable person could come to the conclusion that we "officially" welcomed the current foreign invasion (against our Constitution!!) with open arms.

The children born here to those ILLEGAL but welcomed ALIENS would seem to deserve some sort of legal answer to their status and given the above facts, there aren't too many options.

As to the rest? First, uphold the Constitutional mandate to enforce our borders and protect all states from foreign invasion, while prosecuting the politicians and officials who violated existing laws, our Constitution and their oaths of office and encouraged other to do the same to the fullest extent possible, then see what things look like after the dust settles.

Too many consequences of bad behavior to clean up already.

Let's give our future selves and our children the gift of the consequences of good behavior for a change, just to see what it's like.

A drubbing? The GOP actually now believe what the MSM drive by propaganda has wrought?

Buahahahahahaha! Karl Rove is a dinosaur....extinct!Rove and the RINO GOP are DONE. Its over.

The ONLY way the GOP ( and America itself) can win is with a Cruz - Palin ticket.Every other alternative is just more socialism/fascism, and abrogation of the Constitution.

Oddly enough , ALL Navy ..... time for a Marine or an Army COMBAT soldier perhaps ?

You know, you're right about that. Hadn't even occurred to me that the Presidents I cited were all Navy. It would definitely be interesting to have a Soldier or a Marine serve as CIC for a change.

I know that Poppy Bush served in WWII as a flyer, but I don't know what branch he was in. Dubya was in the Texas Air National Guard, which I suppose is akin to the Air Force.

Ike, of course, was Army, as I believe Reagan was.

FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.

Everyone’s welcome to weigh in on this question. As for me? I think wisconsin still needs Scott for another term. Much unfinished business here. But, if he’s nominated, I’ll be first in line as a volunteer.

I love Scott Walker and have only praise for all he has accomplished in Wisconsin. Nonetheless, he doesn’t have the personality to win a race for the Federal Senate or for President. No bad marks to him from that; it’s just that there are a lot of voters who vote on the personality, not the record - just look at the loser in the White Hut now!

I have thought so, am willing to agree again and want to, but...

I don't understand her public affection for McCain at this point.

I'm having trouble seeing beyond my anti-McCain bias these days and that keeps getting stronger.

For me, it's become a personal litmus test and she's been failing it lately.

I agree. It's a troubling blind spot that I have no rational explanation for.

He was in 2012. Ted Cruz is the answer for 2016.

everytime I see Mitt Romney on T.V., as he was this afternoon, I lament the fact that the asinine Republicans didn’t care enough about their country to get off their collective asses and toss the Kenyan out of office on his unqualified butt.PATHETIC!!!!!!!

2 - who has never served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States .

i forgot...what was Lincolns' rank in the military???I also don't recall Reagans position.....What serving in the military has ANYTHING at all to do with being the chief executive of the United States escapes my mind.....Sgt Bilko would satisfy you??/

We need a president who had a real job, had middle and upper management experience, was chosen to lead a non-governmental voluntary organization, Elks, Eagles, Olympics, preferrably was the Governor of a State or at least the Mayor of a very large city. Instead we elected a nitwit who had no experience leading anything, not even a cub scout troop, no management experience, no job experience, associates who are questionable at best, and while the lowlifes of the country elected him, it's because we Republicans were too stupid to read the handwriting on the wall.....Romney's too liberal, Romney's a Morman, Romney had universal health care in his state (which the citizens voted for), .......wake up and smell the coffee....if we hesitate for a moment, the village idiots on the other side will eat us for lunch.(note the last election)

Reagan signed an amnesty bill. Would he sign it if he were President today, knowing what we know now? I like Walker. I admire Walker. And, as I made clear I contributed to Walker. But, if Walker says he will sign an amnesty bill in 2017, he disqualifies himself for me.

if God does one thing that I don't personally approve of, I'll be an atheist and let the Democrats have another 4 years to destroy the country....BRILLIANT!!!

George Herbert Walker Bush was a Naval aviator in WW2 and flew with combat distinction in the later part of the war , which included getting shot down near Iwo Jima (Chichi-Jima)

and Ronald Reagan served in the U.S Army , although stateside , serving in the 1st Motion Picture Unit , by virtue of his status as a movie personality prior to his service .

G.W. Bush served WITH HONOR in the Texas Air National Guard flying F-102’s or 106’s and serving as interceptor air defense for our southern border ( ie: Cuba) Never deployed to Vietnam , he could have been .

Eisenhower ; well we all know what he did , and some consider what he didn’t do( as our commanding general) ....beating the Krauts to Berlin and setting the stage for the Iron Curtain to so heavily fall .

Jack Kennedy - PT-109 ; he went for that little swin in the Savo Strait . One of the most shark infested straits in the world ....nough said

Walker is Amnesty Liberal...and that is a non-starter

All this Walker Worship reminds me of the same things the supporters of Marco Rubio did....Rubio was a huge Amnesty Liberal, yet folks tried to push him off as a Conservative. Rubio never was a Conservative

Walker talks a game, but when it comes to National Security/Border Security and Illegal Alien Amnesty...he is Amnesty Liberal

I also don't recall Reagans position.....

Reagan enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1937 as a private. He was promoted to 2nd Lt. later that year. He served as a Captain in WW II, though was ineligible for combat duty due to bad eyesight. His reserve commission expired in 1953.

Reagan's military service

one of our biggest weaknesses is that most Americans expect , and hope , that an extended period of peace will be found in the future . I believe there will be war , much more war , and if we do not get in the business of kicking ass and taking names ; utterly destroying those that challenge us , we will lose and America ( as we know it) will fall . No talented business man or slick talking politician will save us , or can effectively lead us . America needs to be led by a warrior , not lawyers . Time to wake up , gird oursleves and be ready to fight . Standing with a real leader .

you live in Illinois, don't you???; What that man has done for the citizens of Wisconsin boggles the imagination....I understand that the Illinois mentality is somewhat more liberal but let's not deny reality concerning Walker....I live in Indiana and I donate to him.

The most important decision any President will make is whether or not to risk our sons and daughters lives in defense of the nation.

Such a decision requires a man of high character. Military experience is valuable, in my opinion, but not absolutely necessary.

John McCain is an example of a military man who would've made a rotten president -- especially with regard to the singular issue of war. McCain seems anxious to engage the country in each and every regional conflict. He does not demonstrate the restraint which most military men exhibit on the issue.

McCain is not a man of high character. Most military men, however, are.

The problem is congress not the president. We need to keep fighting so there is no amnesty bill to sign any time this decade.

When you consider districts and Senate pickups I don’t think there will be a Democrat leaning congress in 2017 to give an amnesty bill to a GOP president.

My problem with Walker and Rand Paul is they being heartless and blase towards working people. It could hurt them with turnout of the GOP base and right leaning working class voters. I actually think it is bad politics to promote amnesty lite and mass immigration.

GOP needs to worry about winning enough white voters in Ohio and Iowa and then moving on to other states in midwest.

On enforcing immigration law:
http://americasvoice.org/blog/wisconsin-governor-scott-walker-flips-from-2010-position-says-he-would-now-push-back-against-sb-1070-style-laws/

I think that it would be a huge distraction for us in this state,” Governor Walker said according to Politico. “I don’t think that falls into one of our priorities, so I would hope the Legislature doesn’t spend a lot of time focusing on that and instead focus on the areas I mentioned.”
