The Navy is investigating cheating allegations against about one-fifth of its trainers at a school for naval nuclear power reactor operators.

It is the second exam-cheating scandal to hit the military this year, on top of disclosures of ethical lapses at all ranks in the military as it transitions from more than a decade of war-fighting.

I am just shocked that any FReeper would think this is nothing to worry about.

Add this to all the officers, the recent so-called problem with the Air Force cheating, and I see a set up that is designed to make Americans think it is something that happens all the time, but this is not something that is always done.

If we have this many FReepers thinking it’s nothing to worry about, well then we are truly F^*# as a nation. Forgive my French!

I pinged all you others for some common sense thinking on this. I saw you all commenting on other similar stories, so forgive me if you are irked by my ping.

Not irked at all.

Those that are entrusted with our most powerful weapons and secrets should be beyond reproach.

I wish our CIC was.

So you have no problem with this happening under the Obama admn?

Especially since it also happened with the AF?

Ever wonder who will replace them to be in charge of our Nuclear arsenal?

Actually, it’s Valerie Jarrett holding the shears. But your point remains correct. People seem to be forgetting who’s calling the shots. There’s no good reason to assume that anything they do is for the good of anything. Ever.

Re-read your post to me.

You said “so forgive me if you are irked by my ping.”

I was referring to that.

Then we have to get to the bottom of a weapon exploded off South Carolina, which Graham chronicled.

Most people do not have an understanding of this, and many other topics having to do with our National Security, because for all practical purposes, we haven’t really had any OR foreign policy for many years now. Our ‘leaders’ are below moron iq and the sheer massive stupidity and dishonesty of it has taken all of the oxygen and turned it to methane and sulfur. Welcome to hell. Internal and external chaos. NO ONE in the whole world has a clue what is going on anywhere else in the world ibcluding where they live.

Some of the comments allude to various incidents -- here is what a quick search turns up:

The Mystery of Minot: Loose nukes and a cluster of dead airmen raise troubling questions
Another story says: It is also worth noting that original reports from military sources talked about only five of the six nuclear warheads from Minot being accounted for in Barksdale.

Purging the military:
Did Obama Plan to Nuke America This Fall? Or is Jim Garrow Completely Nuts?
American Heroes Foil False EMP Flag Nuclear Attack On US says:
According to seismographic records, on October 8th a magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred off the coast of South Carolina, giving credence to Dr. Garrow's claim that one of the weapons was actually detonated at sea to keep it out of the hands of traitors who would destroy the United States; the others, according to Dr. Garrow, are still missing.
Tying into Lindsey Graham: Warns of possible Nuclear Attack on Charleston or New York Harbor and the possibility it was setting up to be a false-flag.

Are these credible? I don't know.
What I do know is that I do not trust my government: Fast and Furious, IRS-targeting, NSA domestic-spying, Benghazi investigations, the bending over backward to legitimize ACA — these all imply something about the character of our government.

The problem is that 33 or more years ago, The US Military Academy at West Point was rocked by an identical scandal. Back then, I was at the University of Alabama getting ready to graduate and get my own US Army commission. We used to joke that the new mascot at the Point was changing from a Donkey to the Cheetah! There were similar scandals at most of the service academies. There was the sexual assaults at Annapolis and the Air Force Academy.

The ideals that you espouse are nice but they don't keep up with the general degradation of our societal mores or the mental decay in our youth brought on by the moral relativism of the media. All of that PLUS: Man is simply evil and depraved and he is pervasively so. Been that way since Eve bit the apple and Adam shared it.

“All 157 had been twice passed over for promotion and were within six years of retirement.”

It has long been the case that an officer twice passed over is expected to resign. There were times when 04s were allowed to stay for the last few years until retirement, and times when they were given early retirement, but not with this crowd.

Leadership starts at the top. When the head is rotten the body stinks.

Of course not when Obama is CIC. Then it’s Bush’s fault or rogue bean counters.

Thanks very much for the ping.

The very short article states that those in the Navy, who are under investigation have no responsibility for nuclear weapons.

How comforting. /s

The real question is Will the rank and file up to field grade officers follow the general grade officers if it comes down to a deployment in CONUS. And you know the deployment I mean.

I, for one, am not surprised. The Navy nuke culture encourages this type of behavior from what I have seen. I’m just surprised someone finally blew the lid off of the whole thing. They generally try to cover up and “circle the wagons” for nukes. Maybe because it costs so much to train them, who knows really.

Long story incoming, warning. For example, my previous husband was a nuke, this was fairly recent. The Navy and military as a whole was pushing assault prevention and holding those accountable, we are for the family, etc etc. He ended up being abusive, so I took my claims to Family Advocacy, where they have a hearing to decide unsubstantiated or substantiated, and he would most likely get kicked out of the service if found true. Long story short, my “advocate” leaked my personal info and victim impact statements and they got back to my ex-husband. Scary. They actually put his “friends” on the deciding board of this hearing, where my claims were found unsubstantiated even with photographic evidence. IG and congressional inquiries went nowhere. But a month later my congressman got an award from the Navy for looking out for them! Ever since, I’ve had very little faith in the Navy and their desire to keep their ranks clean. End rant. ;)
