The Food and Drug Administration is laying out new requirements to ensure the safety of infant formula.
The rules announced Thursday are designed to make sure that formula manufacturers test their products for salmonella and other pathogens before they are distributed. They would also require formula companies to include specific nutrients, including proteins, fats and vitamins.

Nanny State PING!
We’re from the FDA and we’re here to help...
Don’t US manufacturers already do this?
From the article:
"Most formula manufacturers follow these practices already, but the rules will ensure that new formulas on the market also comply with the requirements."
And if by chance some tainted formula were to hit the market, just as with any other government inspected product, no government inspector will ever be held accountable.
This will raise the price of formula up, which in turn will increase more benefits to the families who need it.
BINGO! More WIC money! Was there some big salmonella outbreak from formula that created this “need”?
Doubtful. Most formula manufacturers already do this sort of testing. So, it shouldn't drive the price up, but it also won't have any effect on formula safety. Just your typical "we need to look like we're doing SOMETHING" government nonsense...
The article says that most of them do.
Thanks for the ping!
