Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) says it’s time to “rebuild America, not Afghanistan.” He and three other senators want Congress to debate a continued U.S. military presence in that country after 12-plus years of war:
“If military might or money would change that part of the world, we’d have changed it by now,” Manchin told a news conference on Thursday. […]

Afghanistan is a failure and only idiots would want to keep trying to fix the unfixable.
Only because of the approach. The Taliban were nearly extinguished—and then along came the liberal marching orders that allowed them to start building back up. Setting up an Islamic government with someone like Karzai at the head was no help either.
In the past 6 months, there's been an epidemic of heroin use and deaths. People know this stuff is grown in Afghanistan and wonder why the fields are not dessicated. It's turning people against the program and the CIA in particular is being blamed in peoples minds.
It would've made more sense to keep the nutcases and their excuse for a culture in Afghanistand and out of the US than us trying to change them.

Iraq does have its existing oil resources, but the Uniparty handed them over to Red China.
Afghanistan has a lot of minerals (gold, copper, iron, lithium, cobalt) and natural gas, yes.
Of course, invasion for the purpose of natural resource seizure/exploitation would be construed by the liberal media as imperialism, under a government with the wrong party label in majority.
There was never any way to win.
The last thing I want is soldiers stationed at Afghan bases built by their grandfathers.
This reminds me of Obama being against the Fallujah surge and being proven wrong.
It was never a policy option, but the smart thing to do would have been to overthrow the Taliban, and arm their enemies just enough that they will perpetually be killing each other, to the point where they simply are the entire country just gets tired of it. Go back for bombing when necessary. India or Russia have more to lose in Afghan - let the instability be their problem.
There was never anything of value in Afghanistan and there is no way for America to civilize a backward people.
As to the threat of terror - simply ban anyone from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and approx. 15 other M.E. countries / North African countries from entering the USA.

I’ve never been a fan of sending the military to win the hearts and minds of people.
I am more of a fan of sending the military to break things and kill people.
Imitating Carter wouldn’t have worked.
That’s what should have happened.
If I recall, the Ruskies said the same thing back in 1980. Oh well, as they say, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insanity? Yeh....that works.
Situations like Afghanistan are what NUKES were created for.
One of our local female national guardsmen went over there as some kind of liaison to Afghan women. She went over there with high hopes.
Now she says the only way to fix Afghanistan is to kill everything on 2 legs over 10 years old. She says that we shouldn’t feel sorry for the women either, they’re just as bad if not worse than the men.
The “Russkies” didn’t understand their enemy, their outlook being clouded by their communist ideology.
What makes things so bad here is that we did understand the enemy, and punted the ball to them anyway.
I don’t want to see one more IED going off while we’re trying to win hearts and minds. Get out and if they act up again send in the bombers again.
