Rand Paul to GOP: Change your tune, or Texas goes Democratic
CBS News ^ | 2/9/14 | JAKE MILLER

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., delivered a stark demographic warning to his party on Saturday, predicting that Texas – a sizable electoral prize that Republicans cannot afford to lose in national elections – may tilt Democratic within 10 years if the GOP doesn’t broaden its appeal.

“What I do believe is Texas is going to be a Democrat state within 10 years if we don’t change,” Paul told the Harris County Republican Party on Saturday, according to Politico. “That means we evolve, it doesn’t mean we give up on what we believe in, but it means we have to be a welcoming party.”

Paul’s pitch to Texas Republicans focused largely on the party’s appeal among Hispanic Americans, who have trended strongly Democratic in recent elections. He acknowledged that immigration reform, a top priority for many Hispanic political leaders, is a “touchy” subject for Republicans. But he counseled the GOP not to shy away from the debate, though it may expose intra-party divisions.

“We won’t all agree on it,” he said. “But I’ll tell you, what I will say and what I’ll continue to say, and it’s not an exact policy prescription … but if you want to work and you want a job and you want to be part of America, we’ll find a place for you.”

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

I wouldn't call Ron Paul a surrender monkey — just listen to this:

This is beyond irritating.

That the democrats are on the threshold of an epic beating and all dummies like this are doing is giving the media something else to report is bad enough, but Paul is also giving precisely the wrong advise.

How disconnected from reality are these guys?

‘Can’t be Wendy. She’s too busy curb-stomping newborns or living in a trailer park for some indeterminate amount of time.

Rand is wrong that the 12 million americans here illegally want to be productive…maybe a few do but most want the promised freebees and have no interest in assimilating ( learning English for instance) they would prefer to take over.

Rand is right however that if Republicans don’t wake up Texas will go democratic…the liberal left is working very hard to make it so. Lived in San Antonio on and off for six years and its politics has changed dramatically, possibly do to population shifts away from California and the Northeast.

Gee, really, Rand?

There's about 7 billion people on the planet. About 6.5 billion of them live far below even the bottom of the ladder in the U.S.

How many, Rand? 1 Billion? 2? 5?

And this guy got into med school?

Clearly a legacy with vapor for brains.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

75% of Hispanics prefer big government as compared to 41% of the general public. Perhaps Rand should persuade them of the righteousness of limited government and individual responsibility before he legalizes 12 million more? Just a thought.

If we deported all 20 million illegals we wouldn't have to worry about Texas going dem.

Once had hope for you Rand but now, like Rubio, you are off the list.
