My father suffered from that. At the time it had its onset (1984) the expected survival was around 5 years (my father saw 3 of that). With modern advances, Brokaw probably has a more optimistic prognosis.
I hope that visible figures like this can use their soap boxes to remind us that Obamacare and like schemes will slay the golden goose of modern cures and better palliative treatments. This is not like doing it in England, where desperate cases could catch a plane to the USA and do what needed to be done. Where do you escape to from here?
