(Seattle's socialist) Kshama Sawant ‘throwing down the gauntlet’ over minimum wage

Seattle, Wash. — At an organizing event and rally for a $15-per-hour minimum wage, Councilmember Kshama Sawant emphasized the movement should not accept any watered-down version of the wage increase

“I’m throwing down the gauntlet,” Sawant said, declaring herself the first politician to support a true $15-per-hour rate.

She and other rally speakers cautioned against politicians and businesses who say they support a minimun wage increase but want loopholes and exemptions.

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that she was paying 33% less - $10/hour.

if the min. wage folks get this much of a bump, better believe all of us need relative bumps as well....I’m in the money now!

Seattle exists yes because of the big boys...the Boeings and the Microsofts and the Amazons..but its bread and butter are the small stores, restaurants, attractions....

close down a bunch of them along Pike's market or near Pioneer Square and a lot of tourist dollars go with it...

This comes across as very arbitrary to me - have yet to see any input on how this would fit in or clash with state statute & the legislature. Any locals have nay info to chime in with?
