Group Says It Can Extend US Senate Race In South Carolina

A GOP group is claiming to have uncovered an “iron clad” method of extending South Carolina’s Republican runoff season in 2014 – ostensibly giving the top challenger to liberal U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (RINO-SC) extra time to campaign for the GOP nomination.

Currently, if no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote during the initial primary election, a runoff between the top two candidates is held two weeks later.

The group – Carolina Conservatives United – says it has “discovered something that will extend (the runoff period) to sixty days.”

“I’m not allowed to provide details beyond this at this point, and I’m fully aware that when it comes to fighting establishment players like Lindsey Graham, it would be foolish to assume that anything is certain,” Ben Howe – a board member of the group – wrote this week. “But we believe there is a hope that the time for South Carolina voters to pick, the time needed for candidates to up their game, could be longer than anyone had expected. And that could be a game changer.”

Hmmmmmmm …

All we can think is that the group will attempt to invoke a 45-day rule regarding absentee ballots – which added to the existing two week period would equal 59 days.

Other than that we have no idea what the group might have up its sleeve … although if its “iron clad” method adversely impacts the electoral fortunes of Graham (which it could) we’ve got no problem with extending the runoff schedule by an extra month-and-a-half.

I’m curious as to why anyone would vote for Little Lindsey. Who is his constituency?

Unfortunately he is my senator. He campaigns as a man-of-the-people,
pro-business, freedom-honoring, conservatives' conservative.

Sadly, most South Carolina voters do pay attention to the fact that
Mr. Graham chooses to represent them by voting strait Democrat on key issues.

I personally have never voted for him.

Loophole?
Rules?
Written regulations?

Really? You’d expect an incumbant to just “follow” that, lock step like it were some codified requirement?

But, it also gives more time for a larger turnout which always favors Liberals and incumbents. It will give Graham more time to patronize people by “visiting” with them and showing them how much he “cares for them”. No, no. I like short campaigns. Strike while the iron is hot.
