Fire rages and petrol bombs fly through the air as riot police crackdown on the demonstrations against President Viktor Yanukovich in Kiev's Independence Square.

At least eighteen people — including seven policemen and 11 protesters — were killed and hundreds more were injured during clashes in Kiev on Tuesday.

Many were killed by gunshot and hundreds more were injured, with dozens of them in a serious condition, police and opposition representatives said.

Despite Western demands for restraint and dialogue, the state security service first set a deadline for the demonstrators to end disorder or face "tough measures", and then the police advanced into Independence Square, the center of the protest campaign.

Are armed freedom fighters any less genuine than unarmed freedom fighters?

The EU is involved and the EU is commie. So where is the “good” side?

As opposed to that bastion of Conservative Capitalist values, Vlad Putin? You realize that the protesters are pissed because the President of The Ukraine refused a trade deal that would have opened trade with The EU, which Vladdy ordered him to turn down. The people in the Ukraine want western currency and products, not rubles and cabbage.

I agree with your last point. The EU is not a positive thing and was never designed to be. The Soviet Union under Putin is still a communist dictatorship

You apparently have missed the fact that I am aware of what is going on in the Ukraine. My comments were lamenting the lack of decent press coverage.

The US has become a bad actor in foreign policy. The communists have always been bad actors.

“...hard time finding anything news wise...”

This was my conclusion as well, and since the protesters are appearing to use occupy wall street type tactics and are pro EU - I suspect that they are the communists/leftist sympathizers, and as we are hearing very little from the media, this was my suspicion too. Of course I could be completely on the wrong track as I have not studied the Ukrainian trends and shifts in power at all.

It does seem both sides are on a painful trajectory and stuck with two poor choices - EU socialism or Russia?

Well, the protesters are throwing large stones at the police. So , if we have the police throw the stones back to the protesters, that would fair, right?

Fought Muslims for 300 years, so no, Ukraine’s almost 100% Christian

Protest of a corrupt president turning into a full blown revolt.

You need a corrupt government for a color revolution to start up, otherwise all the agitprop would fall on deaf ears.

Entirely untrue.

I haven’t read Soros mission statement but if it’s to agitate an already agitated population, where is his transgression?

Duh, he's agitating.

If you're eating a bowl of ice cream, and someone else takes a spoon of your ice cream, that does not make it ok form me to take a spoon of your ice cream as well.

7 year olds will use the excuse "well Johnny did it too".

No, they want all the EU goodies and fun stuff. Like work permits and free study abroad for a year. All the products come from China now so this really has little to do with trade. The younger generations wants mobility. The anti-Russian Ukrainian nationalists don’t like Putin calling the shots. That’s all.

I don't think you understand what is going on over there. Their government is corrupt and wants to turn Ukraine back over to the Russians. They are rebelling against fraudulently elected president who has rewritten the constitution illegally to basically give himself dictatorial powers.

That's rather simplistic. There are sort of two sides but actually more and your depiction is one sided. One movement wants to stay close to Russia, that includes some of the government including Parliament. Another side wants to remain independent of both Russia and Europe. Another side wants to stay the heck away from the EU. Another side wants the EU and the stronger currency to buy more imports.

In reality the protestors are just useful idiots for the globalist European elite and the police are just useful idiots for Putin et al. Neither side is worth supporting.

Ukraine would be yet another backward nation - compared to the Germanys, Switzerlands, Frances, etc.

Correct, although Switzerland is still nominally independent.

Corrupt Russian puppet president in place thought he could intimidate people with kidnapping and tortures, backfiring now

Thanks for the propaganda, but it's old news. The alternative to the Russian satellite is to be under the central control of the EU planners and micromanagers. What is option 3?

Shame on you to suggest that protesters losing their lives are doing it for money

I did not suggest that. What planet is that coming from ?

The Open Society organization is handing out grants.

That money goes to organizations; people working in cubicles and having meetings, making presentations, etc., and they work on influencing thought leaders inside the country.

How those operations and who knows what other operations by other organizations translate into the actual protests we see is obviously covert, thus not publicly available information.

In some new world order revolutions, like in Syria, there are actual militants who have to be paid and who need logistical support which costs money (much of their financing reportedly comes through Qatar and Saudi Arabia).

In other new world order revolutions and protests, there are countless unpaid protestors who were emotionally swept up by what they heard from organizers, and they participate on their own. The "occupy" movement had a lot of freebies that took part and had no clue as to who they were really working for.

Nevertheless, it's been widely surmised that Soros has been working in the revolution business for decades.
