Police worked a crime scene all night at 1538 E. Stanford St. as they investigated the kidnapping and murder of 10-year-old Hailey Owens. She was taken from the 3200 block of West Lombard Street as she walked from a friend's home to her home two blocks away late Tuesday afternoon.

The article states that Woods is an in school suspension teacher at a middle school. Words just fail me with reports like this... my heart aches for her family. My stomach twists thinking.. even for a moment.. how that precious little girl died. I then begin to wonder how many more were committed prior? All I can say is prayers for the family.
The media is covering it so we can assume she is white.

The long hair and counter culture appearance is a red flag... maybe he should be working at the video shop or the local landscaping outfit... but in the schools? REALLY?

Usually a suspension “teacher” is what as known as a paraprofessional, not a certified teacher...not that it really matters in this case.
I looked him up on MO casenet; 1 prior non felony drug conviction, had it been a felony he would not have passed his state mandated background check.
I was watching the news when the reports first came in. They said they had a description of the perp, vehicle and license plate # but they did not release it until almost an hour later.
Can’t help but wonder if they had sent out the Amber Alerts quicker and had the news and radio stations give this info it might have turned out different.

A very sad and tragic case, very troubling that this guy was affiliated with a school in any way.
That being said, from a statistical point of view almost any crime against a child, molestation, assault, and even murder, is much more likely to happen at the hands of a family member than anyone else.
It may not have looked like a kidnapping at the time.
Since he worked at the school, she may have just accepted a ride.

Report says the guy was a middle school teacher. And she’s like 10? So what age would kids in middle school be?

Also.. earlier reports say the parents heard her SCREAMS and chased after the Van.
