If the Republican Party is looking to make inroads with Hispanic voters -- it need only to look at Texas.
A recent Gallup poll found that in the Lone Star state the Democratic Partys traditional advantage with Hispanic voters is much narrower than the national average.
Nationwide, 30 percent more Hispanics identify as a Democrat than a Republican, compared to just 19 percent in Texas.
Part of the reason is that Latino culture has been ingrained in Texas since its founding. Many families can trace their family tree back to when Texas was part of Mexico.
But Republican strategist Karl Rove -- a Texas native -- says there is an even more crucial factor from which Republicans across the United States could take a lesson.
Most important of all is that Republicans in the modern era have felt very comfortable campaigning in the Latino community, and the Latino community has responded positively to that message, Rove told Fox News.

Here’s an idea. How about appeal to AMERICAN voters. To hell with all this hyphenated crap.
bump
I stopped reading at Tokyo Rove. A deep Democrat leftist plant within the GOP if there ever was one.
BTTT
Exactly. I do think Republicans are missing a golden opportunity to mobilize Venezuelan Americans to our cause however. If I was a senator, I’d be speaking on the steps of Congress, denouncing the Maduro regime, and demanding the president sanction them like Iran. A model just got shot in the street by the socialist thugs, for crying out loud.
California was 90% white in the 1940’s. I dont buy this BS that all Hispanics are native to Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California.
It is the same logic that Obama said the state of Arizona was going to arrest Hispanics eating ice cream in Arizona.
Out of the people leaving California and moving to Texas some are hispanic and probably realize that Liberalism is bad for a lot of reasons.
Just so everyone know my family came in here from Poland during the worst of the worst of Hitler’s purge of Poles. Maybe Pop’s nose was a bit too big? That was enough to throw you in an over.
Pop’s moved here, thank God, and stuck to a strict lesson of “YOU WILL SPEAK ENGLISH”
Even our Polish name was spelled different. We weren’t Poles anymore. WE WERE AMERICANS!!! We aren’t POLISH-Americans. We aren’t Scot-Polish-Americans. We are AMERICANS who happen to have immigrated from Poland. I can’t tell you how much it irks me that Americans that have more melanin than myself declare themselves African FIRST before Americans. YES FINE!!! Your family may have been brought here 500 years ago as a slave. That is a horrible horrible fact of history that can never be changed. But you’re and American first and foremost! Why is “African- American” exclusively for melanin blessed people? I remember in college a white South African was pilloried when he tried to join the African American club. The shape of our eyes, the amount of melanin in our skin, the hair we grow has NOTHING to do with our heritage. WE ARE AMERICANS!!! I have had the immense pleasure of attending dear friends’ citizenship ceremonies. I have personally had friends from Ukraine, Georgia, South Africa, Russia, Germany, Austria, Honduras, India, Mexico, Philippines, Malaysia, and even Canada who swore to be American citizens. They were all very proud and I was very happy for them. They were Americans that came from somewhere. They weren’t somewhere- Americans.
It seems the only people who DON’T want to be Americans are spoiled brats who were lucky enough to be born here who feel some grievance and thus claim themselves to be something BEFORE they are Americans. That pesky hyphen. Those hyphenated cowards.
I’m worked up and my blood pressure is boiling over. Better have a beer and relax a bit before I blow a gasket.
AND ANOTHER THING!!! If one has travelled to Northern Mexico or practically anywhere in Chile or Argentina I challenge you to find someone who says “I’m a German Chilean” “I’m a German Mexican” “I’m an Austrian Argentinian”
What a bunch of crap. Visiit a North Mexican town and you’ll find German names all over the place. HECK, go visit Argentina and Chile’s Patagonia mountains. Names like ‘Weissman’ ‘Schneider’ ‘Holtz’. All Germanic names. I didn’t meet ONE that said “Soy Alemen Argentino.”
You would not believe how close to home your post hits.
I've had fights with my own children over this issue. My own son, who believed my instruction until he went to Rutgers University, told me that my devotion to America stemmed from my immigrant background. I retorted that people were breaking down the doors to be oppressed here.
Hispanic Voter Pandering = Support for Illegal Alien Amnesty
Whenever “HIspanic Voter” is mentioned...it is now code for “Illegal Alien Amnesty”
GOP will lose if they do not start appealing to all voters...and just try to appeal to 7-85 of the voters
BTTT!
It seems most of the Mexicans here in Texas vote only for Santa Claus.
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
