Michelle Obama: 'Young people are knuckleheads'
Washington Examiner ^ | 02/21/14 | Charlie Spiering

On the "Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon, First Lady Michelle Obama explained that it was more important than ever for young people older than 26 to sign up for health insurance.

"A lot of young people think they're invincible, but the truth is young people are knuckleheads," she laughed, pointing out that they often cut themselves while cooking or injure themselves by dancing on bar stools.

Obama added that thanks to Obamacare, coverage for young people was much cheaper.

"Now young people can get insurance for as little as $50 a month, less than the cost of gym shoes," she explained.

$50 a month - (and I doub t that figure) and what is the deductibla? several thousand a year - that must be paid for up front, should you incur any bills - LOTS more than %50 a month...should you actually need to use it.

That said, my 27 year g’dau and her hubby’s insurance was cancelled - and to ‘sign up’ $750 a month and an outrageous deductible. They can’t do it.

When Obama was running in 2008, he gave a speech in La Crosse, Wisc. where I worked. I still remember the thousands of students trekking from the local state college past my workplace to listen to King Barack. When McCain gave a speech, only a trickle of students went and listened to him speak. I assume the knucklehead quotient all voted for Obama. They deserve every bad thing that’s happening to them.

...they have nothing to lose, and there is already free medical insurance for those with nothing, it's called Medicaid.

I may be dead wrong but there appears to be a bit of an inconsistency here. It is my hazy understanding that if you are given Medicaid benefits the government has the right to come after you in later years for the money paid out for you under Medicaid. If that is true, then they certainly have something to lose.

So who buys a new pair of gym shoes EVERY MONTH?

A. I usually get sneakers for $15-20 at WalMart, use the up in 4-6 months, and get another. $30-60 per year for me.
B. That $50/mo, even if it was true, does not include the huge deductibles or the co-pays. Further, I never carried health insurance from the time I was on my own at 18 until after I turned 40. That's 22+ years of payments I never needed to make because I was never sick or injured enough to let my mom guilt me into going to a doctor. (Yes, I'm a typical male. My arm could be falling off... "it's only a flesh wound!")

22 years times 12 months times "just" $50... $13,200 saved right there. At a more likely $120/mo, it's closer to $31,680. It was a gamble, but one that paid off for me. Why aren't other allowed the FREEDOM to make the same choices and decisions for themselves, Ms First Lady?

They can come after your estate assets (including your real property) even in cases where you have already transferred it to your children in anticipation of death.

Of course, after fifty years of Communist rule you won't have any assets to be confiscated so it will be a moot point. But in the meantime, you'll get the best of "free" socialist health care, Comrade!

All medical debt can be discharged by filing a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.

So, a young person with no assets who is unlucky enough to get hurt of seriously ill, would be better off running up the debt on Medicaid and then declaring bankruptcy to void future repayment.

Knuckleheads? At age 19 My then husband and I had a son...we had no insurance. (This was 1970)...how did we EVER manage without government? Oh...and we did NOT live with our parents either. Democrats want knuckleheads ... it is they who make the best slaves.

Pretty sure most folks don't wear out a set of gym shoes in a month...

If Bush had said that it would be proof he is out of touch. If Reagan had said it it would proof he was an old fogey. Instead it's no big deal...

I just wonder whether the Congress incorporated some wording in the law that would make it impossible to discharge that sort of debt. Otherwise, I think we would see or hear ads from lawyers that warn you of this and advise that you file for bankruptcy to protect your estate.

I don’t know, just wondering.

They never mention the deductibles and the limitations on coverage.

How did the audience react when she said this? I can’t bear to watch her myself.

She wouldn’t be first lady without those young idiots. But whenever I hear liberals claim that the world is changing because young people are liberal, I am reminded of the old saying… “If you are not a liberal at age 20 you have no heart, if you are not a conservative at age 40 you have no brain.”
