Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts could have a tough time getting through his primary this year, a new poll suggests.
The veteran Republican Senator is facing a primary challenge from Milton Wolf, a doctor and a cousin of President Barack Obama. Wolf is running to Roberts’ right, and has the backing of outside conservative groups, including the Senate Conservatives Fund.
A poll out Friday from Democratic pollster Public Policy Polling found that while Kansans were still largely unfamiliar with Wolf, there was a fair amount of dissatisfaction with Roberts on which he could capitalize if he can raise his profile.
Roberts beats Wolf handily in a head-to-head match up. Forty-nine percent of Republican primary voters say they would choose the senator, while over 23 percent would choose Wolf. But in a match up with a generic “more conservative” candidate, the race is much closer: Roberts leads 43 percent to 39 percent. Since Wolf still remains widely unknown — 76 percent of Republicans say they’re “not sure” what they think of him — and there is the potential for the numbers to move in his favor as more voters get to know him.
Those numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, however, since the question voters were asked were rather leading.
“Generally speaking, would you like the Republican candidate for Senate this year to be Pat Roberts or someone more conservative?” one question asks. Wolf is portraying himself as someone who is to the right of Roberts, but since Wolf has no voting record, it’s hard to objectively compare which one is more conservative than the other. A number of voters may want somebody more conservative than Roberts, but there’s no guarantee that they will decide Wolf is that person.

That’s very true. But the point is to elect as many conservative senators as possible IN EVERY ELECTION CYCLE, not just give senators a pass because they have an “r” next to their names.
Do the names Jim Jeffords, Arlen Specter, Lisa Murkowski ring a bell? When push comes to shove, these types assist the democrats and work to thwart conservatives. And these long in the tooth types like Roberts become Thad Cochran, Ted Stevens, John Warner, Richard Lugar, Orrin Hatch, etc., who will provide a vote when the democrats need one for cloture, etc. because they worked together for 20 or 30 years and have become friends.
The US Senate is a legislative body, not a comfortable club for the aristocrats. I want conservatives elected, and will do whatever I can, wherever I can, to remove those who have over time voted poorly, and Roberts is one of them.

Since Roberts voted with Cruz and 16 other Senators to not extend sequestration during the phony government shutdown, he earned my vote, unless someone can show me enough negative votes to change my mind.
The view that more people would come to have an approving view of Wolf equally reasons could have "disapproving" view of Wolf, once opposition research done by media especially in KS, as area media is strongly pro-liberal and assists liberal campaigns by running hit pieces and commentaries.
Count on Kansas City, Topeka, Wichita and Lawrence media outlets to have attack pieces ready to roll, thanks to entrenched extreme dislike of all conservatives of any stripe, especially new comers.
KS is littered with conservative wannabes taken out by liberal RINOs, handily assisted by liberal media, unions, Planned Parenthood abortion money, and not the least Democrat PACs around the country!

Roberts is not truthful if he claimed he was a resident when all he had was a rented recliner. That alone is reason enough to ditch him.
We need people of character with integrity who are honest, forthright, courageous. Not these types that take advantage.
Maybe Roberts should be grateful that he's got a tenant and stay in DC.

Roberts (KS) - 08/05/14 - 78% (Average) - 89% (Heritage) - 55% (CFG) - 72% (ACU) - 94% (FreedomWorks)
Roberts votes conservative on some things but liberal on others. His conservative average is 78%. You can judge for yourself if his one vote last September is worth sending him to Washington again for another 6 years.
Heritage has him at 90 with the average Republican Senator at 67. Freedom Works has him at 94. His average is dragged down by ACU and CFG. Do they have a different agenda than the other two? CFG I can’t seem to find and ACU doesn’t include 2013.

CFG (club for growth) and ACU haven’t updated their numbers for 2013 yet. Once they do, I’ll update the numbers.
I created the average so we could have an apples to apples comparison of all senators, because politicians will use different rating agencies to pick and choose which gives them the best ratings. And ratings agencies rate on different things, so everything is taken into account. ACU for example, rates a lot of tax and spending issues. And I was tired of politicians talking about their “lifetime” ratings where they are allowed to use their votes from 20 years ago to give them cover for this year.
Based on all of this, Roberts is way down the list. He’s better than some but not as good as others. You’d have to check out each rating agency to see which is most in line with your values/issues and then keep your eye on the politicians using that.
But overall, in comparison to other senators, Roberts is below 80% and trending downward. It’s as honest and objective an assessment as can be made using actual votes.
These ratings are all well and good, but I have a MAJOR question. Do these ratings ORGS include YEA Cloture votes in which the Senator eventually ends up voting NO? (i.e., he gets a ‘conservative’ on the NO vote, but his YEA Cloture vote (which was the one that mattered) not held against him?....
In my mind, ANY Senator that votes FOR cloture to cut off debate and amendment on a bill and then AGAINST the bill with other minority Republicans is just a RINO looking for a show vote he can go home and lie about.

Some of them are on to that little game and they rate cloture votes as well. I know Heritage (and I think FreedomWorks) did with the cloture vote last September on Obamacare.
So we’re advancing in our scrutiny of these politicans.
Are they the ones with lower ratings? I’d guess so.
