The administration is probing the media and public’s response to a complete takeover of the press. They know it’s what already has the Republicans intimidated into acquiescence and they’re imagining life without FNC, the WSJ or Drudge.

Exactly. I did contract work for Israeli companies back in 2011, and we were constantly running into leftist organizations controlled by Soros. Soros has bought and paid for about a dozen PR organizations that spew out lies and propaganda. These press releases are sent out to hundreds of leftist writers who then write them up as “news.” They are joined by millions of useful idiots who believe that crap.
