McConnell is playing Kentucky and the rest of us for fools. So are other RINOS. Obama and the rats want to kill coal. Go Bevin!

Ted Cruz made the mistake of taking them seriously.

At which point many people started taking Ted Cruz seriously.

I’m watching the second season of House of Cards. Even though it’s fiction...that has got to be a lot of truth in how D.C. works. Damn ugly.

So simple even a Romneyite Concern Troll can understand it.

As I’ve noted here before, Republicans use Senate rules to play a con game on the folks back home. In a nutshell, they first arrange things to ensure that Obama gets his way, then formally vote against him once they are certain that opposition is futile.

/////////////////
The Potemkin Opposition: Epitomized by Senator John Cornyn. He looks as though he were cast by Hollywood for the role of “Senate Conservative.” He plays the role well, if looks alone were the issue. He plays this game expertly: Giving Obama what he wants, and, then, OPPOSING him on meaningless votes that are guaranteed to go the Democrats’ way.

Show-voting is easier to explain that this long article.

McConnell and his leadership flunkies WANTED the budget to pass unamended! They needed 60 Senators to vote for Cloture, closing off debate and amendments and bring it to a simple plurality floor vote. This required at least 5 (maybe 6) Republicans to vote with Democrats

Cruz caused him to get no sword fallers and McConnell & his butt buddies had to step up.

Following this in the plurality vote, McConnell and all the Republicans voted NO to the budget (for the folks back home and the news letters) in a defeat that was evident before the bill was even discussed.

They had the opportunity to load the bill up with multiple amendments to keep it from passing and they did not do it. They WANTED it to pass.

He was judged by Texans to be conservative, when compared to Kay Bailey.

Only when Cruz entered the scene did we realize what a true conservative should act like. Cornyn hoodwinked us

“Unlike Republicans, they stick together to fight for the things (statism, power . . .) they believe in. Does anyone tell them, “Look, nothing can happen without 60 votes, so you’ve got to moderate?” Are you kidding?”

yep, that’s the defining difference between Dims and the GOP in Washington D.C. - the Dims go to win, win, win period, and the GOP leadership goes to compromise, compromise, compromise

they allow the Dims to never seek bipartanship, except when the Dims want to blame the GOP for not being bipartisan, reducing the meaning of bipartisan to Dims going for the jugular and the GOP going along

That’s because the Dems want to transform the county and the GOP wants a deal. Any deal. The GOP doesn’t care if it’s a bad deal as long as their donors get some pork.

For example, take the Ryan-Murray cluster bill. Ryan didn’t care that vet pay was cut because his donors wanted the sequester busted. The Dems would not increase the DOD budget so Ryan needed a cut. He was happy to sell the vets down the river for some pork, bottom line.

Sir, I think you have captured the essence of the issue in two short sentences: Thank you.

Cornyn must be brought down by Republican primary voters over the next eight days, or we are saddled with him for another six years, I fear (unless we can manage to elect a Republican President in 2016 and persuade him to appoint Cornyn to something to get him out of the Senate. Then Abbott can appoint himself, if he wins the Governorship in November. Okay. This is a bit of pipe dream. I admit it.)

Another great McCarthy article, neverdem. He’s one of the solid conservatives remaining at NR. Wonder when he will be purged?

Thanks for posting.

And there is a more serious danger for GOP leadership: The conservative base increasingly wears the establishment’s disdain as a badge of honor..... Beltway Republicans do not seem to grasp how ominous this is.

They will soon learn. Perhaps as early as, say, November?

I think the GOP needs to get with America, and bring back American jobs from China.

Actually.
