“Ultimately this is the result of the failure of the government to act democratically” and to engage in dialogue and fight corruption, Gorbachev said during an address to a forum on government communications in the city of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.

He added that the root cause of the unrest in Ukraine was an “interruption of perestroika,” referring to his reform policies, and of the democratic process there. …

Interesting comments on FR - I read the whole article and he actually makes sense.<p.A bit disturbing that so many missed the point (or don’t give a flip about the point) and opted to do a knee-jerk attack while ignoring the gist of the comments.

Gorby appears to be attributing this to Putin's interference in Ukraine's affairs, in which case he's 100 percent correct. That should pretty much seal Gorby's deal, right there.

“in the city of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates”

Gorby is talking about “democracy” in a place governed by a bunch of Sunni Muslim emirs who put themselves on their family thrones and who rule, repressively, over populations that in most Gulf States are majority Shia Muslim.

what a hoot; well I guess with their oil money they paid Gorby a lot for his presentation, and for the international pr lift it gives them

Not the EUSSR’s interference?

Note the two powers vying for the Ukraine here. Look familiar?

In which case, Gorby is just another enemy.
