G.O.P. Congressman in South Carolina Takes a Risk With a Foray Into Immigration

GAFFNEY, S.C. — After the sterling conservative voting record he has established during three years in Washington, Representative Mick Mulvaney, a Republican, can take a few political risks in his South Carolina district, one of the most conservative in this reliably Republican state. This week he did just that.

Mr. Mulvaney convened a town-hall meeting in this country town on the troublesome issue of immigration, with an audience of Latinos. He held forth for an hour, parsing policy and answering questions about the prospects for immigration legislation in the House — entirely in Spanish.

Even more surprising to the spellbound crowd at the First Baptist Church, Mr. Mulvaney said he and other conservative House Republicans were open to some kind of legal status, although not a path to citizenship, for many immigrants living in the country illegally.

But he also said it would not happen this year: Republicans just do not trust President Obama to carry out any law they might enact.

“We are afraid that if we reach an agreement,” the congressman said, making the most of the Spanish skills he acquired years ago in college, “he will take the parts he likes and he won’t take the parts that he doesn’t like.”

The politics of immigration are gradually shifting in South Carolina and some other Southern states, where not long ago most conservatives passionately rejected legalization as amnesty that rewarded lawbreakers. Like Mr. Mulvaney, a number of Republicans are moving toward the view that the immigration system needs fixing, and that 11.7 million illegal immigrants will not be deported and need a path to legal status.

But all these politiians desperately need these 11 million votes from the illegal immigrants despite the at least 150 million that don’t want what they will do to further eat away at our entitlement programs, overload our hospitals and schools and overpopulate the land. The other 150M that want them are probably comprised of a pretty large percentage of Hispanics and Democrat voters that just want to increase their base.

But they want the taxpayers that are comprised of the 150M that want their borders secure to pay for it all.

This NYT story is what folks in the trade call a "puff piece." And the reporter and this South Carolina Representative sounds very much like he's been replaced with a robot or the Chamber of Crony Communists found his price, or both.

And no, it's not because he addressed the crowd in Spanish. That's actually not very surprising.

The whole scenario sound like it was written by some Soros-funded publicity agent.

Mulvaney is mining a mother lode of American distrust Obama himself generated......by his Godzillian Obama/Care blunder.

Trusting Americans are not used to being lied to by their president. Now they are disillusioned b/c Obama promised over and over that they could keep their plans.

Americans are learning that, far from being a national asset, Obama/Care is political flim-flam, a shady ruse being used to forward Obama's self-serving goals: (1) throwing Americans off affordable health plans, (2) burdening Americans w/ ruinous deductibles, (3) nationalizing 1/16 of the US economy, (4) abandoning the elderly and the chronically ill, (5) empowering IPAB's (Death Panels),(6) decimating intergenerational transfers of wealth, and, (7) drug rationing for seniors....and so on.

The intricacies of "immigration reform" hand Obama another opportunity to dupe the electorate for his own self-serving purposes.

It wasn’t immigration that caused 30 MILLION illegal aliens to enter our country illegally..

it was lawlessness and a lack of respect for America and Americans..

changing our immigration laws wont get rid of the illegal aliens..

An open letter to Representative Mick Mulvaney and all the GOP Members of the House

As a Representative in Congress, you took this Oath:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

"Support and defend the Constitution" it says. Did you see that? That document requires, per Art.4, S.4, that

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

An invasion is what we are suffering. That invasion has accelerated with each "comprehensive immigration reform" previously enacted. Instead of another disastrous reform that yet again increases the incentives for millions more to try their luck crossing the southern border, a Representative who took his Oath and the Constitution seriously would be pressing for what the American people have repeatedly said they want - not what Senators Schumer and McCain, Mark Zuckerberg, Mexico, some border state farmers and homebuilders or the Chamber of Commerce rent-seekers want. That is:

1. secure the border in a transparently verifiable way;
2. end the anchor-baby interpretation of the 14th Amendment;
3. enforce eVerify without exception and with severe penalties;
4. no government benefits beyond critical emergency care (and that ought to be billed back to the home government); and
5. NO "Path to Citizenship" - ever - for anyone who has entered the US illegally.

Any bill that does not accomplish these five things is unacceptable. It is de facto amnesty. And it will inevitably encourage millions more illegal entries.

If the GOP is complicit in this amnesty fiasco, either by taking up the Senate bill or through some piecemeal slight of hand with a series of House bills such as we hear are being cooked up of late, the GOP will cease to exist. It will not survive through the 2016 elections. The people will shun the over-tanned, glad-handing, backslapping quislings and look elsewhere for leaders who actually have the spine for the fight. Make no mistake - to me and to many, many others, amnesty is the GOP's Rubicon. Cross it at your electoral peril.

Why is this so hard for the republicans to figure out....record unemployment among minorities which leads to record welfare rolls. Solution.....deport the Mexicans and force the minorities to get off their asses and get a job. Tell the law breaking employers that the honey moon is over and to get busy finding and training American workers. As for the lame ass excuse about Americans unwillingness to do these jobs it's simple you turn down a job you are not eligible for any future assistance until you accept what is offered!!

Regrettably, Congress has no Constitutional authority to enforce any law. Enforcement is solely the responsibility of the Executive Branch.
