Geoengineering Ineffective Against Climate Change, Could Make Worse

Current schemes to minimize the havoc caused by global warming by purposefully manipulating Earth's climate are likely to either be relatively useless or actually make things worse, researchers say in a new study.

The dramatic increase in carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution is expected to cause rising global sea levels, more-extreme weather and other disruptions to regional and local climates. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that traps heat, so as levels of the gas rise, the planet overall warms.

In addition to efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, some have suggested artificially manipulating the world's climate in a last-ditch effort to prevent catastrophic climate change. These strategies, considered radical in some circles, are known as geoengineering or climate engineering.

Many scientists have investigated and questioned how effective individual geoengineering methods could be. However, there have been few attempts to compare and contrast the various methods, which range from fertilizing the ocean so that marine organisms suck up excess carbon dioxide to shooting aerosols into the atmosphere to reflect some of the sun's incoming rays back into space. ..

Now, researchers using a 3D computer model of the Earth have tested the potential benefits and drawbacks of five different geoengineering technologies.

How can it make it worse if it’s ineffective?

Another day, another insult to my intelligence.

Almost every day, ya see the planes flying at higher altitudes, their contrails turning into wispy and puffy trails.

Natural? hardly.

Deadly? who knows.

No matter, the agenda is paramount.

Have scientists suggested that the Sun be declared a forest fire? If so, maybe the same scientist would want to channel Earth’s water to help put out the Sun. Scientists ... two cents a dozen.

A diagram of the geoengineering projects people have proposed to combat climate change. The laws surrounding such projects are still uncertain.

Wow; this is exactly what the Romans did during the Roman warm period. They gave up their industrial society, and the planet grew colder. But because they were no longer industrialized, they could no longer defend the Empire and were overrun by barbarians.

But hey, they stopped global warming.

The same thing during the High Middle Ages; they had all this industry that built the Cloth Halls and Guilds, and the beautiful cathedrals of Western Europe. Trade flourished in the Baltic through the Hanseatic League, and the Vikings raised cattle in Greenland. But all this industrial activity caused global warming, and so they ceased the activity. Thus, the planet cooled, and in the colder conditions, reduced harvests could no longer feed a now weakened population. This led to the Black Death and fall of the Medieval civilization.

But hey, they stopped global warming.

Geoengineering will work under many of the proposed approaches - no doubt.

The problem is that (for example) increasing the solar energy reflected will cool the planet, whether or not we were actually warming. I do not want to watch us slide into a self-inflicted and extremely destructive ice age that will last for hundreds of thousands of years (a stable state that is more common and more durable than our current warm interlude) to avoid a hypothetical warming period that is neither stable nor obviously harmful.

The only havoc global warming/climate change/insert your terminology here is causing is the spewing of politicians.

Here is some good news for all scientists though scientists will believe This is Bad ... There are three sinks, on Earth, and they are the water, the soil and the air. Matter can be neither created or destroyed. Rubble is rubble and rubbish is rubbish till decomposition.

Nope, there is no technology solution for global climate change.

The only workable solution for Global Climate Change is the adoption of a world government based on strict authoritarian, progressive socialist principals.

Humans don’t fully understand the mechanics of weather, or climate. Their models are good for predicting the weather two or three days out, but not for anything else.

This kind of large-scale attempt to change the weather or the climate had better wait until humans understand what it is they are trying to change.

(not gonna happen)
