Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer will veto a controversial bill that would allow business owners to refuse service to gays and lesbians on the grounds of their religious conviction, NBC News is reporting via Twitter.

Brewer has been under intense pressure from business groups and political leaders to diffuse the situation and veto the legislation which they fear will draw unnecessary attention to Arizona a year before it hosts the next Super Bowl and following economic losses on controversial immigration stances.

Goldwater supported abortion. He also had no problems with homosexuality. Libertarian views on both counts.

Add Senator Mike Lee and the majority of TEA Party candidates for any political office to your list of those who would, truly, stand up to the homosexual mafia. Ditto, Senator Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, Dr. Ben Carson, and Allen West. And, No to all libertarians.

The ‘public accommodations’ clause in the 1965 Civil Rights Act did away with personal property rights.

Sadly, too few Republicans see that. And they end up appearing incompetent when trying to make the case that anti-discrimination laws regarding homosexuals are different from anti-discrimination laws regarding race. The fact is that when it comes to the private sector, both types of laws violate classic concepts of liberty.

As a person of mixed racial ancestry, I am personally offended by the thought of a private restaurant owner turning me down for racial reasons. But I am more offended by the thought that the State wants to force that owner into a non-consensual business transaction. I am opposed to involuntary servitude, even if I personally benefit from that servitude.

So when I defend the right of business owners to turn down assisting in gay weddings, I don't want to play the lame "race is different" game. I simply want to defend property rights.

brewer thinks, ‘you righties made me sign immigration, 2nd amendement, late term abortion. now its my turn to be my moderate self.’

Non-sequitur post of the day. The Great Brewer has vetoed bills of every type you described. Brilliance.

“Funny you never you use that on men.”

Your post must have been meant for someone else, BECAUSE I USE ON THAT SENTIMENT ON MEN PROBABLY MORE THEN WOMEN. In fact after 40+ years in business, I would say there are far more MenWhores then there are WomenWhores.

Selling anything - values, beliefs, or some part of your body - is all the same thing! Once you do it, that’s what you are. And sadly, at least 70% of the men currently in Congress qualify as whores, most with a capital W.

You apparently know more about Sen. Goldwater than I do. I was eighteen when he was running for the presidency and I did some doorbelling for him but as far as his views on abortion or homosexuality, I wouldn’t have had a clue. People didn’t talk much about that stuff in public 50 years ago.
I still say he was way more conservative than most Republicans today I also think his positions would have evolved after 50 million abortions and the in-your-face way that queers are today.

>> Where is the Pope on this? Where is the President of the Southern Baptist Convention on this? *crickets* <<

I'm honestly not surprised the Pope, the President of the SBC, and other national/international Christian leaders aren't getting involved in a local state issue. There are thousands of such events every day around the world. That being said, the top Christian clergy and religious officials IN Arizona CERTAINLY should be vocally taking a side on this, and doing everything they can to encourage Gov. Brewer to sign the bill. But I haven't heard them doing anything.

>> A whole bunch of prominent Republicans including Gingrich , Romney, McCain, and the other Arizona Senator came out against it. <<

Romney and McCain were always considered RINOs, but where's Newt's fan club now? I thought he was the “bold Reagan conservative” that was the “last conservative standing” and “our beloved Republic deserved nothing less” ::rolls eyes::

>> All the above but Rand Paul. He is too “libertarian” like his old man, who voted to lift DADT. He’s wishy washy on marriage and never puts faith into the conversation when asked. <<

Agreed that Rand Paul would cave, he's another overhyped "Tea Party" candidate. I said from the beginning I didn't trust the guy on social issues but his fan club ignored it. Bill Johnson should have been the GOP nominee in an ideal world.

When Goldwater got old and senile he said homosexuals should be able to allowed to serve in the military. When he was young and running for office as a republican he would have thought homosexual “marriage” was the craziest thing he had ever heard of.

I absolutely agree. Just as I believe the millions of aborted babies would have sickened him. I also wonder if I would have spent a year in RVN had he been elected.

Thanks for the reply BillyBoy, but this has much larger ramifications than any ordinary local state issue. People all over this country and around the world are paying attention to this. This is all about Freedom of Religion and this world's Christian leaders should be chiming in against all the voices encouraging veto. Perry, Romney, McCain... the list goes on and on. Jan Brewer is being left to the wolves by Christian leaders and GOP politicians.

She will veto.

And others would have questions about attitudes toward murderers and kidnappers. God says they’re equally sinful (but He loves them, just the same).

The older he got, the more radical left ol’ Barry became; really he mirrors the political climate change of AZ.
