Sadly, too few Republicans see that. And they end up appearing incompetent when trying to make the case that anti-discrimination laws regarding homosexuals are different from anti-discrimination laws regarding race. The fact is that when it comes to the private sector, both types of laws violate classic concepts of liberty.

As a person of mixed racial ancestry, I am personally offended by the thought of a private restaurant owner turning me down for racial reasons. But I am more offended by the thought that the State wants to force that owner into a non-consensual business transaction. I am opposed to involuntary servitude, even if I personally benefit from that servitude.

So when I defend the right of business owners to turn down assisting in gay weddings, I don't want to play the lame "race is different" game. I simply want to defend property rights.

You apparently know more about Sen. Goldwater than I do. I was eighteen when he was running for the presidency and I did some doorbelling for him but as far as his views on abortion or homosexuality, I wouldn’t have had a clue. People didn’t talk much about that stuff in public 50 years ago.
I still say he was way more conservative than most Republicans today I also think his positions would have evolved after 50 million abortions and the in-your-face way that queers are today.

I'm honestly not surprised the Pope, the President of the SBC, and other national/international Christian leaders aren't getting involved in a local state issue. There are thousands of such events every day around the world. That being said, the top Christian clergy and religious officials IN Arizona CERTAINLY should be vocally taking a side on this, and doing everything they can to encourage Gov. Brewer to sign the bill. But I haven't heard them doing anything.

Romney and McCain were always considered RINOs, but where's Newt's fan club now? I thought he was the “bold Reagan conservative” that was the “last conservative standing” and “our beloved Republic deserved nothing less” ::rolls eyes::

Agreed that Rand Paul would cave, he's another overhyped "Tea Party" candidate. I said from the beginning I didn't trust the guy on social issues but his fan club ignored it. Bill Johnson should have been the GOP nominee in an ideal world.

When Goldwater got old and senile he said homosexuals should be able to allowed to serve in the military. When he was young and running for office as a republican he would have thought homosexual “marriage” was the craziest thing he had ever heard of.

Thanks for the reply BillyBoy, but this has much larger ramifications than any ordinary local state issue. People all over this country and around the world are paying attention to this. This is all about Freedom of Religion and this world's Christian leaders should be chiming in against all the voices encouraging veto. Perry, Romney, McCain... the list goes on and on. Jan Brewer is being left to the wolves by Christian leaders and GOP politicians.
