I Called Stockman's Campaign HQ For an Update (Vanity)
February 26, 2014 | Din Maker

Posted on 02/26/2014 8:01:58 AM PST by Din Maker

Early Voting began a week ago Monday here in Texas, and ends this Friday, February 28th. Many of us have worked hard to defeat John Cornyn in the March 4th Primary, or at least get him into a Run-Off Election and possibly "Cruz" him out of the Senate. We started out with a lot of expectation and enthusiasm; of which both seem to be dwindling somewhat. Why is that? Probably because only one candidate, seemingly, is even serious about defeating Cornyn. And it is NOT Mr. Stockman.

Since he is my Congressman, I called his Congressional Office in my town yesterday to see how the campaign is going (since we never hear a peep out of him except via an occasional e-mail) and to just get an update and possibly some "encouraging" news. The lady said: "Oh, we're the Congressional Office; we know nothing about his campaign." I'm thinking: Hmmmmmm.... Then she said: "Let me give you his campaign office number." I took the number and thanked her. I then called what is apparently his ONLY campaign office in the entire State of Texas, located in Houston. I got a recording telling me to leave my name and number and they would get back with me. That was two (2) days ago and I have not heard a word from them. That is the first time since I've been politically active in 1980, that I have ever gotten a recording at the HQ of a State-wide Campaign Office in the middle of the day. Does he have only one person in the office?

I've made no secret about the fact that I am NOT supporting my two-time Congressman, Steve Stockman, for the U.S. Senate because he is just freakin' weird. Now, I'm convinced that he doesn't even want to win the Senate Race. He just wanted to raise over $450,000 this time around, to pay off his campaign debts from the 2012 Congressional Election. What suckers we've been.

By the way, that candidate who seems to be the only one even trying to win against Cornyn is Dwayne Stovall. But, I'm afraid all the Stockman lovers have already voted and it might be too late for Stovall to come in second place. I would love to see him and Cornyn in the Run-Off. I think Stovall will win. And, the Cornyn folks who are holding all that "dirt" on Stockman for the Run-Off Election, will be terribly disappointed.

I am a newbie. Been here 3 or 4 months I guess. This is my 3rd Vanity Post and I have about 500 comments on FR probably. Well, maybe more like 300. But, I’m on here every day. Where have you been?

I don’t think Stockman will make the runoff, he’s simply not running!

************

You may well be correct. I’m not sure Stockman is very well known outside of SETX.

You mentioned early voting totals so I’ll post a link in case others may want to
look at the current data.

The largest 15 counties and their early voting turn out so far.

I don’t recall having ever carped at someone for being a newbie (maybe have done, possibly in jest, but it’s been a long time over the last 15 or so years where I have stood that up as evidence of anything - pro or con). Just never had recalled seeing anything by you, comments or otherwise, that’s all.

I asked legitimate questions, and you responded with what I’d call unresolved and loosely substantiated claims (for the most part), some innuendo, and a later an ad hominem comment just now about ‘where have I been’.

I’m here like you, mostly every day. I’m not claiming you’re anything but incomplete.

Frankly, you are doing a disservice to yourself and your interest in this guy. I told you I don’t have dog in the hunt, yet you seem to think I’m against what you said.

Thanks for the link.

Interesting how light turnout has been. Only 2.70% where I am in Bexar County so far, vs. 3.70% total in 2010 (the last comparable year).

I was going to vote for Stockman before, based on his statements; however, given that he’s been a no-show and seems to be in it either to raise money to pay for past debts and/or to be a drain on serious anti-Cornyn (read: Stovall) votes, I’ll be voting for Stovall.

I’ve had enough of Cornyn. The RINO couldn’t support Cruz for literally even 1 minute during the latter’s filibuster against Obamacare, and has become a consummate insider. Nope, I’m tired of that, and we don’t need a Texas version of the NE RINOs or McStain.

For you pro-Cornyn voters, PLEASE don’t be fooled by his ads and his claims to be “Mr. Conservative.” He does this around election time, but behind the scenes displays his inside-the-Beltway attitude whenever it really counts.

Stockman has had a good voting record, but he doesn’t seem interested in winning.

I sincerely apologize if I responded inappropriately; apparently I did. Sometimes I “shoot from the hip” too quickly. Sorry. Let’s be friends.

No problem....you apparently have some reservations with him, and it appears from ensuing comments after ours that others have problems with him, too. I can buy all that.

After all, it’s about getting rid of Cornyn. But that doesn’t mean we have to vote for a kook - we just have to be able to clearly explain why not. :o)

You aren’t comparing the same number of total voting days. Thru 8 days you are
at 2.07% and in 2010 you were at 2.07%. The Dems are at 1.90% and 1.54%.

Stockman doesn’t even have as good a conservative rating by some groups as Cornyn does. Hard to see how he is much of a step up, compared to someone like Stovall.

Should proof my post more carefully. The numbers are 2.70%
vs 2.07% for the same number of voting days. Take care.

Then can you tell me why so many FReepers jumped on his bandwagon so early? I’ve been trying to tell folks about Stockman for the past 3 or 4 months since I’ve been here on FR, but it has, for the most part, fallen on deaf ears.

He was first, and had a big name, and they want to get rid of Cornyn — enough that a good number of them would rather have a democrat win.

If you are willing to let a liberal take over the seat just to get rid of Cornyn, why would you care a slightly less conservative republican took it, so long as that republican isn’t considered “establishment”.

That is the fight many want to pick, against the “establishment”, which has little to do with conservative voting records, and instead is about who has the power in the republican party.

Which is why they are targeting some senators and congressman who have higher ratings than others that have lower ratings, mostly because those they are targeting are in leadership positions and those they are not do not hold leadership positions.

I just hope this doesn’t turn out to be the 3rd cycle in which we fail to take the senate because we spend all our energy getting rid of republicans we don’t like. We have a few dozen horrible judges now because of the last two elections — we were of course told not to worry, because we’d have the filibuster, but now we don’t have that and all the extra conservatives don’t help a bit when you are in the minority.

Stovall is the man. I’ve met him twice. He is conservative and he’s busting his butt across the state.

Bbbbut...he said “turtle”!

I just sent this e-mail to all my e-mail contacts in Texas re: John Cornyn:

March 4th is the GOP Primary here in Texas; the first in the nation. A great chance to send a message to the “liberal” Republicans in D.C. (Yes, I said “liberal Republicans”.... that is not a typo.) One of the most liberal Senators in Washington is from Texas. He claims to be a Conservative. No, I’m not talking about Ted Cruz; I’m talking about Obama’s buddy and butt-kisser, John Cornyn.

Cornyn recently voted with the Democrats to give Obama a blank check by raising the Debt Ceiling when he voted for Cloture in the Senate. Only 12 Senators voted with the Democrats and all of them are of the Liberal “bent”. Don’t believe the ads Cornyn is running saying he is a Conservative; he’s not. Plus, he fought Ted Cruz when Ted tried to get ObamaCare defunded. Cornyn stood with Obama and ObamaCare. He went so far as to call Ted Cruz “dangerous”. He hates Ted Cruz but he and Obama get along great.

If you have not voted, early voting ends Friday. The Primary is Tuesday, March 4th. Political analyst say with voter turn-out in Primaries being so low, one vote is equivalent to 10 votes in a General Election. Please vote in this Primary and please consider anyone running for Senate (there are 8 of them) except John Cornyn and Steve Stockman. Stockman has been my Congressman both times he served and he is “nuts” and Cornyn has a lot of dirt on Stockman that will come out in the run-off election if Stockman comes in second place. The true Conservatives are supporting Dwayne Stovall. A great, East Texas guy, who will make us proud. Stovall is my choice, but you make your own decision. I’d say say at this point in time: In the Senate Race, vote ABC (Anybody But Cornyn). At his age, this will probably be his last 6 year term in the Senate. Not having to ever face the voters again, he will be the Senate Liberals best friend for the next 6 years.

Thanks,

Funny thing about Stockman running for Senate, he isn't or can't run for his old district 36 seat. I see your in 36 as I am. Who do you like in this race? With 12 candidates it's hard to know what to believe.

Thanks for posting this. I got one of these “newspapers” in the mail today. I glanced thru it and saw it was a Stockman campaign ruse.

Since I have decided to vote for Stovall next week (quite some time ago)....the “newspaper now resides in my trash.

I’m still researching some of the races. Any opinion on Commissioner of Agriculture or Railroad Commissioner?

Well, I know who I’m not for. I’m not for Streusand. The people who endorse him are the same ones who endorse Cornyn. And, I’m not for Babin. I worked for him back in the late 90s when he ran. He has no integrity IMO. He stiffed Mr. Cloeren who owns Cloeren Industries in Orange. He “encouraged” his employees to donate to Babin’s campaign. A complaint was filed and Babin bailed on him and let him take all the blame. It was nasty. I’m leaning toward Centilli. How about you? What’s your take on the race?
