Half as many Americans view Iran as the United States greatest enemy today as did two years ago. As a result, China now edges out Iran and North Korea atop the list.
After the top three countries, 9% of Americans mention Russia, 7% name Iraq, 5% Afghanistan, and 3% Syria.
Gallup first asked this open-ended question in 2001, and opinions have shifted over that time. In the 2001 survey10 years after the Persian Gulf War but before the 2003 Iraq war beganAmericans named Iraq as the greatest U.S. enemy by a large margin.

Far Fewer Americans Now Say Iran Is No. 1 U.S. Enemy
How about America? Can I say that America is now our No. 1 Enemy?
Where is DC on that list?
right after Obama
The #1 enemy of the USA.........how about democRATS & Wash. DC.
Too many threats to pick from. Our foreign policy is in shambles, trouble from every direction.
Most Americans have scant awareness or knowledge of the nature of any foreign threats and would be hard pressed to locate these countries on a map. But they know all about the foibles and antics of the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, and Alex Baldwin.
At this point I find no meaningful distinction between the Democrat Party and the Republican.
True that. There is no consistent policy and we have no credibility anymore.
‘Rats believe the #1 threat is the TEA Party.
The number one enemy of Freedom and Free America is the left...voters, politicians, individuals, media (and so forth).
Republicans = Democrat Lite.
The Big Lie technique works
It is only a matter of time before some country steps up and directly challenges us, knowing full well Obama will back down. This is already happening to a certain extent but IMO we’ll soon see a more direct, confrontational form of it.
It will be interesting to see how the country reacts to a U.S. president who backs down in the face of aggressive behavior. You don’t have to be a highly degreed, geopolitical strategic thinker to see this type of encounter coming. Its on the horizon.
The way America itself is decaying into corruption and sheer depravity, it’s becoming difficult to really look upon ‘any’ outside entity as being an actual enemy anymore.
The enemy itself seems to be what America is turning into.
You wouldn’t be alone..this nation certainly is an enemy of the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob...
secular humanist gods the country’s leaders implore to bless the USA have done their job.. ‘blessed’ with freedom and liberty that in the hands of the unrighteous, well, you get US..
That isnt the freedom and liberty our Messiah promises...
No, America is it’s own worst enemy these days.
...and keeps the pot shops open. lol
America’s worst enemy is not Iran. America’s worst enemy is Barack Obama
Iran isn’t my enemy.
That would be the Marxist punk ass poser in the white house.
How about Obama? Was he listed on that?

And so, of course, our current regime announces plans to reduce our military to pre-WW2 levels.
