Georgia, Mississippi Follow Arizona by Blocking Bills Seen as Anti-Gay

Less than 24 hours after Arizona’s governor vetoed a bill that had been criticized as anti-gay, similar legislation in Georgia and Mississippi are hitting new roadblocks.

Georgia state senator Josh McKoon conceded on Thursday that support for his religious-freedom bill is evaporating, 11Alive Atlanta reports. He told the Huffington Post that a committee vote on his legislation, previously scheduled for next Monday, has been taken off the calendar. McKoon said his bill merely protects religious rights of Georgia residents, but critics argued it would allow business owners to refuse services to gays based on religious beliefs.

In Mississippi, the state House of Representatives Civil Subcommittee stripped key provisions on Wednesday that had been attacked by the ACLU as discriminatory. The organization said the legislation would allow for even broader discrimination than the SB 1062 bill that was vetoed in Arizona, according to the Mississippi Business Journal.

It’s not caving.

With a diminishing resource base, trying to fight the left on every front is a losing strategy.

Concentrating political capital on carefully-chosen, individual contests is how to win in the long run.

Those are children.

Adults are concerned about money, not homos.

And sports. Let’s not forget sports.

He has a wife, a son and another on the way and works 2 jobs. He’s hardly a child.

Who, exactly, is screaming? You and warchild9 keep flinging the accusations, but back them up with names. Is Ted Cruz a screamer? Am I? Warchild9 seems to think so, and all I did is challenge him on his characterization of the religious right.

I’d also love to know how you propose to fight smarter against the left. I’m just guessing here, but I suspect it goes something along the lines of giving up on social issues. Maybe not, but please describe your alternative approach. Enlighten us screamers...

Calling someone a “Homo” is soooo seventh-grade, and hardly proof of sophisticated political sensitivities.

“And that’s what FR projects, as well...even tho we all know there are reasonable Freepers who lurk quietly (or else they’ll get ranted at).”

Wow! Just wow! Your implication is that many FReepers who post (what FR “projects”) are unreasonable. I bet you consider yourself one of the reasonable FReepers.

BTW, challenging someone’s posted opinions isn’t ranting. It’s called discussion, as in a discussion board.

On the contrary, these are the young adults that are affected by policy and their opinions matter. These are the ones being touted as being all for “gay rights” and they believe being labeled “gay” is insulting. It is very pertinent and reveals the propaganda for the lie it is.

That saddest thing is reaction among most of even the conservative evangelical Christian community seems to be little more than a shrug and a yawn. Christians in America have become like the 600lb Gorillia who has been convinced by the its really only a 10lb spider monkey and so instead of clobbering the opposition like they could if flexed their collective social and political muscle, the just scurry away and hide.

I listen to my 22 yr old grandson and his friends and "You're so gay!" is an insult. The recipient gets angry too. They care.

I know several people who appear to be as gay-friendly as anyone around. They have gay friends, they support all the pro-gay stuff going on. But.. whenever they get angry at a gay person (or even at Obama) their true feelings emerge and I hear some pretty harsh commentary on their sexuality/personality.

I believe that deep down, the most ardent supporters of the "gay movement" still know that homosexuality is an abomination and disgusting.

Just like the social war against abortion is over, eh? You’re absolutely right DJ. The courts can illegally and immorally proclaim the social war is over, but all they end up doing is creating more strife. They may very well rule like black robed tyrants, but that doesn’t solve the core problems.

In regards to homosexuality, the strife is being caused because the left generally wants to force other people to do their bidding. A lot of the resistance to gay marriage would probably go away if our freedoms to associate with who we want, speak what we want, and believe what we want were held in high regard as both God-given and constitutionally protected rights.

I agree with everything but that. People still get grossed out. Especially young men.

“Please, I already said I’m not reading your posts”

I’m posting for the benefit of those reasonable lurkers you mentioned if not for you. So you come to a discussion board, make a bunch of ridiculous assertions about how the religious right screams, insults, and threatens, then you refuse to defend your claims by further discussion. Let me characterize that for you. It’s like a small child with his fingers in his ears screaming, “I can’t hear you! I can’t hear you! Nanananannanan!”

LOL

Actually, a couple of my Freemail entourage think you’re pretty funny.

I shouldn’t toy with you. It isn’t fair. I’d hate to be responsible for you getting a thrombo.

This won't stop. Eventually parents will be jailed if they object to old homos having sex with their kids. And then this -

It use to be just a couple years ago anything remotely in acceptance of gay rights or gay marriage would flat out get you banned from Free Republic. That seems to have changed because as of late, the pro-sodomites seem to outnumber us even on here. I guess we're now just homophobic bigots and religous kooks who have the gall to believe that God's word doesn't change with whatever direction the poltical winds blow. Oh, well I can live with that, I'm too old to change now and will continue telling everybody that homosexuality and homosexual "so-called" marriage is a filthy degenerate sin, and I don't care who it offends. What's the worst they can do? Lock me up? Execute me? Good I'll die a Christian martyr....

apillar: “That saddest thing is reaction among most of even the conservative evangelical Christian community seems to be little more than a shrug and a yawn.”

I think there are a least two reasons for that. #1 the media makes it seem like there are far more of them (leftists) than us. They certainly go out of their way to make the pro-homosexual position seem trendy and popular. #2 Christians see this as an inevitable sign of the times—something that we can’t change and probably wouldn’t want to change in the first place as it leads to Christ’s return.

#1 is simply an advertising campaign. As such, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s reality. It’s simply the reality they are trying to create, and it isn’t guaranteed to work.

#2 There’s also no guarantee that these are the end times predicted in prophecy. Christians throughout the ages have tended to think Christ’s return is imminent. For all any of us know, we may be on the edge of a great revival brought about as a result of the left’s overreach on things like abortion and homosexuality.
