Putin gets permission to use Russian military in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin received permission Saturday from parliament to mobilize the country's military in Ukraine.

Putin says the move is needed to protect ethnic Russians and the personnel of a Russian military base in Ukraine's strategic region of Crimea. The request comes a day after President Obama warned Moscow that "there will be costs" if it intervenes militarily in Ukraine.

Putin move appears to formalize what Ukrainian officials described as an ongoing deployment of Russian troops in the strategic region of Crimea. His motion loosely refers to the "territory of Ukraine" rather than specifically to Crimea, raising the possibility that Moscow could use military force in other Russian-speaking provinces in eastern and southern Ukraine where many oppose the new authorities in Kiev.

He said the move is needed to protect ethnic Russians and the personnel of a Russian military base in Ukraine's strategic region of Crimea. Putin sent the request to the Russian legislature's upper house, which has to approve the motion, according to the constitution. The rubber-stamp parliament is certain to approve it in a vote expected Saturday.

But Obama said not to and stuff! Come on! Stop it!

Putin is about as worried about our nancy-boy president as he would be a waiter at the Olive Garden. "Um, Sir? There's no smoking in the restaurant, Sir."

This operation could expand depending on what “fraternal appeals” come from other parts of Ukraine.

Russia is carving the country up by establishing pro-Russian protectorates there.

Its more like surrender in our time. We will be the ones paying the cost, not Putin.

If anything, obama works for Putin.

Perhaps a Papal visit to Moscow would influence Putin's plans and timeline?

Putin says the move is needed to protect ethnic Russians

Sounds eerily similar to what Hitler said at the start of WWII.

Obama’s threat to boycott the G-8 in Sochi is full of hot air.

Before long this will be all over.

And every one knows it.

I understand that Obama chose not to defend Ukraine when he learned that they too have a law protecting their children from being sodomized by Americans.

I'm afraid the incompetent fraud might decide that as long as he's president he ought to play Commander & Chief - with a real opponent.

For him its a twofer - the power of immediate life & death at his whim; with the decimation of our armed forces as a bonus.

His civil national security force can take it from there.

Yes, taking a page from Der Fuhrer’s playbook.

Russia and Putin’s foreign policy goals: strengthening his nation’s interests and growing its empire.

America and Obama’s foreign policy goals: promoting homosex all over the globe.

It will be interesting to see how the country reacts to the depths of Obama’s dangerous incompetence and malevolence. How much of this will be tolerated while we are losing our grip in the world and becoming more vulnerable by the day? At some point a palpable level of national fear will set in.

As long as the people in those areas want to be part of Russia, why can`t they? Lets not forget that the elected government was overthrown in a revolution meant to establish EU control over them, if those areas have the right of self determination, why not the others?

So we now cherry pick based on reliving the "glory days" of the cold war? "I hate those commie Rooskies!", says the old armchair General!

Get over it!

Thanks to 50 years of public "education" Americans have become too collectively ignorant of the world around them and its history to perceive a threat from abroad. IMO.

Its still a matter of personal finances, I'm afraid - people won't be moved to do anything about their corrupt incompetent government until the pain becomes unbearable.

It all depends on how the media spins this. And they'll spin it to somehow make Obama look really good: Obama slaps down Putin with harsh statement! Obama refuses to fall into Putin's Ukraine trap! That sort of stuff.
