Hi everybody!
((((HUGS))))
He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, . . . where they crucified Him. John 19:17-18
It was a bit unusual, but three times in one day I heard the same song. In the early afternoon, I attended a hymnsing at a home for the elderly. As part of her prayer at the end of our time together, Willie, one of the residents, said, Sing with me, Jesus Loves Me. In the evening, I attended a gathering with young people who sang it while pounding out the beat with their hands and feet. Later that evening, I received a text message on my phone with an audio recording of my 2 1/2-year-old grandniece with a sweet little voice, singing, I am weak, but He is strong. People in their nineties, teenagers, and a toddler all sang that song that day.
After hearing that simple song three times, I began to think the Lord might be telling me something. Actually, He gave us all this message long ago: I love you. We read in John 19 that He allowed people to put a crown of thorns on His head, mock Him, strike Him, strip Him, and crucify Him (vv.1-6). He had the power to stop them, but He said very little (v.11). He did it all for loves sake to pay for our sins and to rescue us from punishment.
How much does God love us? Jesus spread out His arms and was nailed to the cross. He died for us, then rose again. Thats a precious fact for young and old.
He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
My father served in World War II, first in North Africa, where he got malaria--and lived, then at Anzio, another Allied disaster. Please don't ASSUME disrespect because I have a different take on things. I was inordinately proud of my daddy. He passed away too soon at 58 years old. BUT, WWII was 75 years ago, a lifetime. That is all I was saying and you probably KNOW it but just wanted to give me some flack. THAT'S OKAY...this IS the FR!
My mother recently passed away at 94 years of age. She STILL missed him too. I have an ENTIRE photo album of him...and he's got a couple of GREAT photos in his U.S. Army uniform! He was already 31 when the war started and he didn't HAVE to serve because he was old, a Mexican and had a wife and daughter (not me) already--but he WENT because HE was PROUD to be in this GREAT land of ours and wanted to serve and defend!
I also remember that WWII was something he wanted to forget! There is NOTHING glorious about war, winning or losing. He wouldn't talk about his experiences...a common thing for those who fought.
THAT "said" volumes to me.
U-505 on permanent exhibit in Chicago.
My father-in-law followed General Patton across Europe. One of his favorite stories was a "Monuments Men" moment when his unit discovered a warehouse packed to the ceiling with Hennessy Napoleon Cognac. The first words from the commander's mouth? "Put a guard detail on that warehouse, 24 hours." Every man was served a portion with dinner. The man on the ladle lasted about half way through the serving line when the colonel entered to receive due gratitude causing the ladle man to rise to his feet quickly, salute, and pass out, falling backwards like a plank.
Hi yourself, Alaska!!!
BRRRRR!!!!
I hold on to those memories I have of friends I lost in the VIETNAM WAR!! Remember THAT one? I sure do.
Sheesh. There HAVE been wars and soldiers dying in Iraq and Afghanistan too. They deserve as much honor and respect. I honor and respect those soldiers JUST AS MUCH....and those wars didn't happen so long ago.
Good evening, Mayor, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to The Mayor family.
Thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Weather report shows snow for you....are you managing?
I knew my grandfather had served in the German Army in WW2, but that was it, he wouldn’t talk about it, at all, and would simply turn and walk away, when asked about it. I would occasionally see a picture in two of him in an Officer’s Uniform in an album, but that was it.
That changed after he was given his final cancer prognosis, and the floodgates opened, likely because he knew I had a real interest in history, and was about to leave for the Air Force.
That weekend, the boxes came down from the attic, and he opened up about everything. He died about 9 weeks later. I had suggested that he send all but a few things he had to the Smithsonian, which he did.
Welcome to the Canteen, concentric circles.
Thanks for the great picture and sharing your FIL’s experiences. That is too funny about the cognac.
A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
I never tire of the hymns played on the pipes.
Thanks, Mac, for playing it.
Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound...
Managing from going insane? Barely.

How wonderful for you to be there for him...and for yourself. And how great for the Smithsonian!
MOST of the soldiers I knew personally were from the Vietnam War and they never wanted to talk about it either.
WWII was a time when Germany and Japan thought they could just overpower the world and just take what they wanted. The Americans weren’t about to let that happen. They were proud of their country and were willing to fight for it, so unlike so many today.
And even today, so many from around the world are still trying to come here, even tho our freedoms are being stolen away each day.
I don’t think it’s fixation, I think it’s pride in our military, pride in our country, pride in our citizens ability to make it work.
A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Well, I guess it depends on WHOM one lost. I lost friends in the Vietnam War. Some weren't killed but HORRIBLY injured.
They aren't in their 90's--only their 60's and 70's and have more of their life to live and remember the unpopular war they served in.
They DON'T get the pride that the WWII vets get.
They don't get the parades and the pride they DESERVE.
They got a WALL.
Even the Korean War got "M*A*S*H* for YEARS on t.v. Vietnam? It seemed to me that NO ONE wanted it remembered. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
I remember the first Vietnam War movie I ever saw: Mel Gibson's We Were Soldiers. How many movies were made about THAT war? Not many, not enough.
The freedoms there were all about communism. Hah, now we are buddy-buddy with the commies. Go figure.
We DON'T celebrate those vets that way we should.
We ought to CELEBRATE all the soldiers who served and serve. We are safe because of them...all of them. PRIDE in THOSE military Vietnam vets' efforts and bravery!
A Blessed Lords Day to you and yours as well.
Hear! Hear! and that is what we do here in The Canteen....celebrate ALL our military men and women, past and present.
They DON'T get the pride that the WWII vets get. They don't get the parades and the pride they DESERVE.
THIS is so VERY, VERY true!!
Canteen Mission Statement......
Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.
Thanks, Connie, for LeAnn’s Amazing Grace....such a beautiful hymn.
A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and your boys.
A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours, Sand.
Are you working on a wood project?
