BOISE, Idaho — Idaho wildlife officials have killed 23 wolves in northern Idaho in an effort to boost the number of elk in the region.
The Idaho Fish and Game announced Friday afternoon that the animals were killed by USDA Wildlife Service agents using a helicopter in the Lolo elk zone near the Montana border. It's the sixth time the agency has taken action to kill wolves in the Lolo zone in the past four years, bringing the total number of wolves killed there to 48. The efforts are part of the state's predator management plan, which calls for killing wolves when the Fish and Game Department determines they are causing conflicts with people or domestic animals or that they are a significant factor in declining numbers of elk or deer.

Helicopters have been used for generations for this work, but the media pretended that it was unique to Governor Palin, and that somehow it was evil.

Pretty country down there. At this rate we’re going to need an elk re-introduction program by the time the decade’s done.
I’ve been gold prospecting in the Lolo Pass area the past two summers. Haven’t seen any elk or any sign of them. The people who live there are really suffering - no meat for their families and no hunters spending money on elk hunts.
As soon as the sainted wolves wipe out their wild prey they start going after domestic animals and people. That’s the reason they were wiped out 100 years ago. I’d like to meet the moron who thought it would be a good idea to bring them back. He wouldn’t like meeting me.
Actually it is a poor use of the money. Put a bounty on the wolves of $500 -$1000.
However, the Northern Rocky Mountains wolf was not, at the time of the initial drafting, recognized as a legitimate subspecies, so the wolves involved in the plan were instead the Great Plains wolf and the Mackenzie Valley wolf.

The 'Timber Wolf' as known by us in these parts is elusive, prone to small packs or mated pairs, and has been here all along (with burgeoning elk herds). Protect THEM, and I am all for it - but that requires the elimination of these introduced interlopers, who do not belong here.

Every time this re-introduction non-sense is pulled by the gov’t, they screw something else up.
Gov’t minded folks can’t figure out that they cannot do better than nature, whether it be managing animals or tinkering in financial markets.

I hunted that area, maybe 50-60 miles outta Missoulla 25-30 years back, we always killed Elk. I hear there ain't one to be found today.
I absolutely detest humans who treat wolves like they are some kind of deity. Those humans are some kind of moron. Wolves are ruthless predators and will often kill just for fun. There are pictures to prove that.
I’ve never been one to hunt grazers but I love to hunt predators of the 4 legged variety. Tried to kill one of the god-like wild canines last winter down near Avery, ID with friends. Saw lots of wolf tracks but never saw a live animal. Didn’t see any elk or deer tracks either.
Yes and not to mention the wolves that have been re-introduced are huge Canadian timberwolves which were not indigenous to Idaho in the first place.
Live along the upper Yukon, we got too many wolves too; decreasing moose numbers. I got a few on my game cam last fall before the snow. I’ve had the buggers in my garbage cans at 3 am in November. Had them trying to eat my sled dogs, ran out on the porch with my AR blasting away. I don’t have any luck with my fox pro. My one buddy got a 140 lber this winter up haul road. They drive, when see caribou tracks, glass. Saw 9 wolves single filing it towards road. They got out sat down in snow, wolves crossed 50 yards from them, got three. I once again forget how to post picts? My kids call them in with rabbit squealers at school bus stop in September, wolves stand in woods across the road, look kids over, never cross.

Idiots! If our immigrant ancestors were as stupid as these PETA protestors, none of them would be alive today. When predator animals begin to decimate another group of animals, mankind can step in and fix the situation.
