8 Steps Obama Must Take to Punish Russia
BI ^ | March 01, 2014 | Marco Rubio

Posted on 03/02/2014 4:16:14 AM PST by Zhang Fei

Russia’s illegal military incursion in the Crimea region in Ukraine is a grave violation of a nation’s sovereignty and cannot go unpunished.

First, President Obama should speak unequivocally and call this what it is: a military invasion. The Obama administration must publicly acknowledge that its “reset” with Russia is dead. The president must now accept that the only way to deal with tyrants like Vladimir Putin is with a clear understanding that they can’t be trusted and that only decisive action will deter their provocative moves.

Second, President Obama should dispatch Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to Kiev to show U.S. support for Ukraine’s transitional government, and urge our allies in the European Union and NATO to send representatives there as well.

Why do we have to do anything? This is not our problem. If Obama would have kept his mouth shut during demonstrations, he could have avoided any involvement now.

Team America, World Police was supposed to be a parody not a documentary.

“Putin has figured out that Obama is set on destroying his internal political enemies and has no regard for this country’s political enemies.”

Good point. I don’t think Obama’s not being raised here has any effect on it, but the fact that he is devoting all his time to destroying his domestic “enemies” is certainly something that Putin must have noted. Obama has taken us down to banana republic status, where the dictator is busy purging his enemies, throwing money at his favorites to buy their continued devotion, and basically rendering his country a pathetic wreck with no influence outside its borders except whatever money its dictator wants to throw to others of his ilk (think of VZ giving money to Cuba, and Obama giving money to Muslim radicals).

I really agree with you. This is a can of worms I don’t think we want to open.

Marco obviously did not have time to include step #9:

Obama must put his big girl panties on.

8 Steps Obama Must Take to Punish Russia

Are eight steps needed when a "redline" just won't do?

This is like getting involved in a fight between a man and his wise as both will turn on you. Rubio has no ideal what the hell is going on. The U.S. is not the policeman of the world as our own house is all F----- up. Talk about taking out the trash here first Marky Mark.

Totally correct.

I would ADD putting western military forces in all the eastern European Countries which border Russia, along with the Baltic States and emplace the Missile defense Shield Bush was negotiating over.

ANOTHER THING - BUY A UKRAINIAN FLAG and FLY IT - along with a Georgian Flag if you can.

My ancestors don’t come from Eastern Europe, but we should express solidarity with them.

If by some miracle the Russian People are able to rid themselves of this pint-sized Hitler, the U.S. should IMMEDIATELY make overtures towards the replacement government.

At this time, we must overlook Putin’s good points.

Russia’s illegal military incursion in the Crimea region in Ukraine is a grave violation of a nation’s sovereignty and cannot go unpunished.

But Mexico's 30 million man invasion of the United States over the last 40 years is something that is something that needs to be celebrated, eh Marco?

Punish Russian invaders to the Crimea but reward the Mexican invaders here? Is that the ticket, you Tea Party Turncoat?

Stay out of it. We aren’t the world’s Texas Rangers. Obama should not start something he doesn’t have the guts to finish. This is the kind of confrontation that could lead to another World War.

It may escalate despite our involvement or lack of it. The whole world will be affected one way or another. There will be some hard decisions to be made and we have exactly the wrong team in and around the WH to be part of that process.

NATO needs to convince Turkey to close the Bosporus to Russian ships.

Ukraine should shutdown the gas pipelines from Russia to Europe.

LOL. 4,6,7 are especially laughable. Trade ties between US and Russia are dismal and mostly involve exports of US-grown foods into Russia which is nowhere near as critical for Russians as it is to US farmers.
And it is so good that Afghan op end is near because US military there is even more dependant on Russian support. Also NASA cannot even bring a thing to space without their assistance.
Is there any sphere with Russians dependent on US?
The only beneficiary of such a cooling between two nations is a Russian regime. The lesser traveling between US and Russia = the lesser US influence within their country.

This American display of weakness will bring down the US Dollar. Part of the US Dollar strength is due to our powerful militarily and ability to project it. This gives foreigners confidence in holding US Dollars.

So naturally commie Obama is decimating our military which tank the US Dollar.

Meanwhile that headstrong imbecile John Kerry lurches around creating even more damage

Ukraine did that so Russia has now alternative. Gasprom company has no intention to feed Ukraine at own account for they did not pay and have no money. Ukraine asked EU for financial help of 35 000 000 000 $, current debt is 140 000 000 000 with no slightest prospect to pay it back

We should send more warships into the Black Sea to get Americans out if the balloon goes up. I would add, put NATO troops on alert in Europe. Maybe the USA should pay the bills of the Ukrainians-—Maybe Obama should put on a Flack Jacket and visit Kiev himself to show his support. The French President did that in Kosovo if I recall. Maybe send Hillary as a special ambassador to talk to Putin. Maybe give some F-16s to the Ukraine (like they did to Egypt) How about sending Ukraine some medical supplies and food and tents? There is a lot that can be done—BUT does Obama have the guts? I think Not.
