Brace Yourself for Hillary and Jeb

WASHINGTON — OY. By the time the Bushes and Clintons are finished, they are going to make the Tudors and the Plantagenets look like pikers. Before these two families release their death grip on the American electoral system, we’re going to have to watch Chelsea’s granddaughter try to knock off George P.’s grandson, Prescott Walker Bush II. Barack Obama, who once dreamed of being a transformational president, will turn out to be a mere hiccup in history, the interim guy who provided a tepid respite while Hillary and Jeb geared up to go at it.

Elections for president are supposed to make us feel young and excited, as if we’re getting a fresh start. That’s the way it was with J.F.K. and Obama and, even though he was turning 70 when he got inaugurated, Ronald Reagan.

But, as the Clinton library tardily disgorged 3,546 pages of official papers Friday — dredging up memories of a presidency that was eight years of turbulence held steady by a roaring economy and an incompetent opposition, a reign roiled by Hillarycare, Vince Foster, Whitewater, Webb Hubbell, Travelgate, Monica, impeachment, Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey and Marc Rich — the looming prospect of another Clinton-Bush race makes us feel fatigued.

Our meritocratic society seems increasingly nepotistic and dynastic. There was a Bush or a Clinton in the White House and cabinet for 32 years straight. We’re Bill Murray stuck at 6 a.m. in Harold Ramis’s comic masterpiece, “Groundhog Day.” As Time’s Michael Crowley tweeted on Friday, “Who else is looking forward to potentially TEN more years of obsessing about Hillary Clinton’s past, present and future?”

The Clintons don’t get defeated. They get postponed.

a major Romney donor told The Washington Post that “if Jeb Bush is in the race, he clears the field.”

I remember, in 2008, thinking: How on EARTH can anyone reasonable think that the republicans would ever nominate John McCain?

And then, in 2012, I thought: How on EARTH can any reasonable republican support nominating Mitt Romney?

If the GOP manages to force Jeb down our throats, that will be the signal to me that they have no intention of defeating Hillary.

I agree.

Much as I believe the GOPe would like Jeb, I don’t seriously think they are going to get away with it this time.

Oh, I do think they will manage to ram another RINO down our throats, but it won’t be Jeb.

I lived in FL when he was governor. Not impressed. However, when you’ve suffered through a loon like Bob Graham, you are willing to accept it.

I always thought that Ross Perot ran because he hated Bush and wanted to stop his election. He succeeded in that.

Your point is taken.

However, the two Bushes and one Clinton represent 5 full presidential terms.

Mr. Roosevelt did not complete his fourth term.

Bushes and Clintons are two sides of the same coin.

Their business dealings go way back, see Mena Airport.

Costa Rica, eh?

I’ve also been looking in to Costa Rica a bit.

If they lightened up on their gun laws I would be sorely tempted.

I will not be voting. I voted for my last RINO in Romney.

No More!

I’ve recently begun to wonder if she had Addison’s disease or something.

There was a Bush or Clinton in the White House for 28 years in a row!

a major Romney donor told The Washington Post that “if Jeb Bush is in the race, he clears the field.”

Typical Inside the Beltway thinking. They sre so out of touch with the rest of the country it's almost as if they exist in another, stupider, dimension.

Yeah, I know, but I don’t count GHW Bush’s time as VP. President Reagan seldom, if ever, let Bush enter the White House - and on the rare occasions when he did, I think he made him use the delivery entrance...

;-)

Don’t do that. Don’t stay home - not ever. If you stay home, the message - no matter who wins - is that the people have accepted the two party candidates, and one of them was better.

WRITE IN the person you want. In 2016, if the GOP-E nominates another non-conservative, I think the Tea Party needs to write in Sarah’s name. Think of the message that will send, not only to the GOP-E, but the whole nation. Think of the encouragement that will give to others like yourself, depressed and despondent over the course of the country.

WRITE IN SARAH PALIN.
