We currently test, or examine, a minority of civilians.
They are comparing a flawed sample to a controlled group. Classic Harvard - poor methodology, poor results - study.

‘Part of the effort to disarm returning servicemen?’, yes it is. What I would like see is a study that determines the mental stability of Congress critters. I know the majority of them are total wackjobs.

To say that another way, the rates are probably the same in the civilian population, but have never been pushed to the edge, the existing issue never is apparent.

My Gosh... their studies are as polarized as their bias.. To make it worse.. anyone that has never been in the military will never be in the same universe as someone that has fought and given their life to protect these same ignorant individual’s freedoms...

much of the stats on anything psychological today comes not only from the “conditions” “found” among those in a survey but how the symtoms comprising a clinical finding of a condition have in many cases been expanded greatlty, often now including “symptoms” that can apply to many different things, sometimes things that can be unrelated to a “mental” condition in any substantial sense - but, if looking to declare someone as having a “mental” condition (lot of $$$ for government and private services in that) then it is much easier today in many cases to find a combination of “symptons” in a person in question
