Establishment and tea party Republicans can comb through the results of Tuesdays Texas primaries and find something to feel good about. But the real story out of Texas this winter is the degree to which the most conservative wing of the party is ascendant. This is not the same party that brought George W. Bush to the governors office 20 years ago.
Establishment Republicans will take comfort in the easy victories by Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Pete Sessions over their tea party opponents. There was never a suggestion that Cornyn was in real danger, despite the fact that Sen. Ted Cruz, the darling of the tea party, declined to endorse him. Rep. Steve Stockman was not close to being a serious candidate. Sessions tea party opponent had the support of Sarah Palin and Cruzs father, which ended up counting for little in that race.
Attorney General Gregg Abbott was nominated as the partys gubernatorial candidate almost by acclimation. Establishment and tea party Republicans are united behind him as he looks toward a general election campaign against state Sen. Wendy Davis. Abbott starts as the clear favorite to succeed Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who will step down at the end of his term after 14 years in office.

I was mailed a "conservative" voters guide by Mr. Hotze.
For a "conservative" guide, it was counter to the incumbent supreme court justices, supported George P. Bush, Cornyn, Dan Patrick, and others that were different than my list.
As a film critic said of Nixon's victory, I don't know how Cornyn won, nobody I know voted for him (except Cornyn, Patrick, Bush, Dewhurst, and Hotze). I was mailed a

Have you wondered at all about what influence “BATTLEGROUND TEXAS/ACORN” might have had in assuring that we would be stuck with John Wayne McCornyn for another term as Harry Reid’s water-boy?
Always glad to do my part—LOL!
Texas primary voters rejected Perry and Dewhurst’s legacy of compassionate conservative tuition for illegals.

I’ve no doubt this exists. If democrats can get one of their own elected, they actively support the most liberal republican they can find. Look at Alaska in 2010. Democrats knew they wouldn’t win, so they got behind Murkowski’s write-in campaign, at Murkowski’s urging, I’m sure.
I actually prefer Mr. Hotze’s mother’s advice, but I don’t see her anymore since I got exiled to enemy territory (Austin).
The “Republican” primary turn out was like 8 times the Democrat turnout.
I wouldn’t doubt there were crossover voters (trying to put the trial lawyer backed judges on the Texas Supreme Court, trying to dilute the “far right” tea party choices, etc.).
The question is to what degree were they there.
My dad said that there was a time (50s-60s) that the Democrats were sweeping elections in the state and that you had to vote in the Democrat primary if you wanted any say at all.
The few dimwits I know openly told me they pulled Rush’s Operation Chaos and voted in the R primary and voted for Cornyn. Don’t know if that was a state wide trend.
Democrats voted for McCain in 2000 and 2008 with NO interest in voting for him in the general election.
I don’t know Mr. Hotze’s mother but generally speaking, if Mr. Hotze is supporting someone, the people in our family pick someone else.

Well it was larger for sure in the recent years, but 8 times?
2014 Primary R--1,310,263 D-- 507,012
Glen Abbott's numbers were 3x Wendy Davis’ numbers. (92% vote to 79% vote in respective primaries)
