McCain: Cruz’s Criticism of Bob Dole Crossed a Line (Good Lord!)

Sen. John McCain said Friday he told Sen. Ted Cruz that the Texas Republican’s criticism of former Majority Leader Bob Dole in a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference crossed a line.

In an interview on MSNBC, McCain said he confronted Cruz on the Senate floor about the freshman’s CPAC comments from Thursday, in which Cruz called out Dole, McCain and Mitt Romney — the party’s last three unsuccessful presidential nominees.

“I spoke to Ted Cruz — he and I have a cordial relationship — about this, and he can say what he wants about me, and he can say anything he wants to, I think, about Mitt,” the Arizona Republican said. “But when he throws Bob Dole in there, I wonder if he thinks that Bob Dole stood for principle on that hilltop in Italy when he was so gravely wounded and left part of his body there fighting for our country? Bob Dole is such a man of honor and integrity and principle.”

Dole was severely wounded on the battlefield during World War II. He recovered from his war injuries along with fellow future Sens. Philip Hart of Michigan and Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii. McCain noted Dole’s current health condition during the TV interview.

Cruz, a potential White House contender in 2016, was the first speaker at the three-day conference of conservative activists held just outside the Beltway at National Harbor, Md.

“Of course, all of us remember President Dole and President McCain and President Romney,” Cruz said at CPAC. “Now look, those are good men. They’re decent men, but when you don’t stand and draw a clear distinction; when you don’t stand for principle, Democrats celebrate.”

Really, really hate going there but the fact is human character tends to betray inexplicable inconsistencies.
That said, I wonder if he thinks Benedict Arnold stood for principle when he was so gravely wounded he left a leg in the battlefield fighting for our country.

Ah, the old military canard: because he was a brave soldier, you can’t criticize him politically, no matter how much his voting record stinks.

Sorry, McCrank, it won’t work.

Go, Ted, go.

Bob Dole is a good and decent man, Mitt Romney may be a good and decent man. McCain is not a good or decent man.

Cruz’ remark was far too gracious for these RINO scum

But McCain’s own statements make no sense. McCain was a POW. If anything he deserves as much or maybe even more consideration for his military service. Both of them sacrificed but being a POW is especially rough. So McCain’s statement is not logical

I saw Cruz’s speech and those few sentences were absolutely true and the people in the audience clapped and yelled their approval. McCain’s reaction was wrong but then he is always wrong.

McCain understands fully what Sen. Cruz was saying.

So, in providing talking points to the lamestream media for their attacks on TEA Party conservatives, McCain has crossed the line. Again.

If speaking the truth is crossing the line then we might as well fold up the tent and go home.

Face it, John McCain is fast becoming a National Joke to most Americans. His War hero card has worn out and his presidential aspirations were trounced by the Most Corrupt, Inept, vapid individual ever to be elected President of the U.S.A. The younger Americans know him only as a bitter old geezer that always has something ill to say about everyone.

He reminds me of the gradeschool/HighSchool cheerleader that everyone wanted back then. 30 years later everyone shows up at the reunion. No one recognizes her, she is old, worn out, ugly and stupid. Spends all night running around begging for the attention she had back then.

Oh, how I wish he was no longer .... well, no longer. And I wish Cruz would have told him he was going to hit him so hard his jaw would no longer be fat.

McCain did not need to cross any line. He’s always been on the other side of the line (except when he’s pretending he’s not or posturing)—he’s ONE OF THEM.

The way I remember Bob Dole is:

“Bob Dole didn’t have a garage door opener.”

and

“Pat Robertson, reach over here and heal this arm and, hell, I’ll vote for you.”

Kiss off McCain. You aren’t worth the crap that Cruz scrapes off the bottom of his shoes! Bob Dole may be a good guy and I honor him for his service in WWII but he was...as Newt said...the ‘Tax collector for the welfare state’.
