Paul: Bill Clinton a 'throwback to a sort of troglodyte time'

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Friday knocked former President Clinton as a “throwback to a sort of troglodyte time,” where men took advantage of women in the workplace.

Speaking to The Hill prior to his appearance at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, Paul defended his recent attacks on the former president, who he’s criticized as a “sexual predator.” He’s also called for Democrats to return donations raised or contributed by Clinton.

“It is quite hypocritical that a party that says they’re great defenders of women in the workplace supports a guy who violated all of those pledges, all of those promises that the workplace is a safer place for women than it has been in the past,” he said. "He's a throwback to a sort of troglodyte time, where men did whatever they wanted to women in the workplace." He said he believes it’s “fair game for Democrats to have to defend” Clinton, since they lean on him heavily for fundraising and campaigning help.

Clinton is expected to be a useful figure for the party this election cycle, as he remains a popular Democratic leader, even as President Obama’s unpopularity threatens to drag down some vulnerable Democrats.

Clinton recently campaigned in Kentucky for Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, the likely general election opponent to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who Paul has endorsed.

Paul’s criticism of the former president has been interpreted by many as a preemptive volley in his probable campaign for president in 2016, when Democrats are expected to nominate Hillary Clinton to run.

He said, however, he doesn’t believe Clinton’s indiscretions should disqualify his wife from the presidency.

However, “not sending reinforcements into Benghazi should disqualify her,” he said.

I'm enjoying seeing Paul continually sticking a shiv in Bill Clinton using liberal words and phrasing.

So is Huckabee.

Huckabee: Keep ‘personal issues of candidates’ off the table

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said he thought Republicans ought to stay away from personal attacks on the Clintons, like Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul’s comments that former President Bill Clinton was a “sexual predator.” “I personally don’t like to see us get into the personal issues of candidates because once you go down that road, it’s hard to ever put it in reverse and go back, and I’m just not sure that’s something we want to do,” Huckabee told reporters at CPAC. “Bill Clinton is not gonna be on the ballot in 2016 or 2014, it’s very possible that his...

Way to go, Rand, but: An insult to troglodytes and stop and think: how many dems (mostly 3rd grade dropouts) actually even have a clue what a troglodyte is?

Paul is showing his colleagues how it’s done. I’m loving it, and the Democrats are running scared. It’s amazing that Paul is the first Republican to do this.

omgosh--shut up, Huckabee! i cannot stand this guy... if he doesn't want to do it, fine... there is no "we" here... Rand Paul is doing it and it has nothing to do with you!... you don't like it, don't do it... but if someone else wants to, that's his business... go away Mike Huckabee!!!

“probable campaign for president in 2016”

Probable? He is already running. He can’t “announce” because of campaign laws. In 2008, when asked if he was running, he said only if his dad didn’t run.

Paul is running, no if ands or butts. Trashing Bill Clinton is smart politics, whether Hillary runs or not. Neuter Bill Clinton NOW. (double entendre intended).

Whether or not you agree that this question should be on the table now now, it’s important to remember that Paul did NOT bring it up. His wife made some comments, and she was being attacked for them, and he came to her defense, and properly so.

There were troglytes on a Star Trek episode years ago. I think that troglyte was a form of the word troglodyte.

And he's not backing away from it, either. I don't know what his strategy is -- Clinton is popular, but Paul's not a stupid man. Fun to watch!
