Sanctions?

What’s he going to do? Pout and throw a hissy fit? Maybe cut 1 day off a 10 day Spring Break Vacation?

Because Obama wants to go down in history as the man who won the cold war and brought Communist Russia to its knees, all for some poor defenseless Crimeans who foolishly voted for secession against the will of the people. This is like one of those pictures of stairs that go around in a circle.

“He echoed European Union leaders and the pro-Western government in Ukraine in declaring that the proposed referendum would violate international law. “

That wasn’t what they said and did with Kosovo.

Does this mean they are going to give Kosovo back to Serbia?

On the other hand, Israel annexing Juda and Samaria will probably be claimed to be against international law. Was it against international law for the Mandate to partition the Jewish homeland into Israel and Transjordan?

It can grow to be more than just a concern. When Hitler marched through Europe, we also thought - not our business. Ended up there anyway, with a lot of preventable losses.

Hearing that a couple of journalists have been quite badly beaten up by the self defence units near the Sevastopol base being stormed. Grim.

Sanctions?

What’s he going to do?

Obama will refuse to shine Putin's shoes ever again.

Russia’s naval base is in Crimea. The Crimea is majority Russian, and has been independent from Kiev (autonomous) since the breakup of the Soviet Union. Side the breakup of the Soviet Union, NATO has been after Ukraine to join. Why? So that NATO can put missiles on Russia’s border.

Russia may be paranoid, but for good reason. The EU has been after Ukraine for 20 years and thought it finally got the prize. Then Russia “stole” it back with a better deal. This is why the EU/NATO is so upset. Putin outfoxed them all.

There is no need for Russia to March on Europe. It controls the energy Europe needs. It can bring the EU to its knees without firing a shot.

Does this mean they are going to give Kosovo back to Serbia?

Obama has already said: "If Serbia likes Kosovo they can keep it."

We should tell the Russians that we will not be using their Soyuz rockets to travel to the ISS. That is a sanction with some bite to it.
