A simple blood test has been developed that gives healthy elderly people precious early warning they may get Alzheimer’s within the next three years.
It is hoped the test, the first to predict accurately who will become ill, could speed the search for new drugs that can delay or even prevent the devastating brain disease.
It could eventually lead to widespread screening in middle-age to identify those most at risk and give them greater warning...

What this test will result in, is not a quick cure.
It will result in people being unable to obtain insurance.
My days and mind are filled with Alzheimer’s Disease, as both my parents have it.
I disagree that prevention would be much helped by a three year head’s up. There is a very good chance that that isn’t long enough to do serious prevention. And those three years might be fraught with anxiety.
Until each year when my parents first exhibited problems they could no longer hide, each seemed perfectly normal, happy, living full, rich lives. It would have been nothing but cruel to take those three joyful years away from them, even if it made them focus on their diets or exercise, or study about the disease. Truly, there would have existed a fear they did not, actually, have to feel. I’m glad they didn’t know.
First, come up with solid long term prevention. Then test for who will get it. I am sort of in the position of focusing on prevention, quite obviously, but that doesn’t mean I want to know today about my future.

I have 2 uncles. One was a brilliant electrical engineer who worked directly for the Navy then later as a consultant to the Navy. Now he’s lucky to know who his wife is. He is late 80s. As one person said, he’s forgotten more than most of the rest of us will never know.
His brother just turned 90 and totally lucid. You’d NEVER know he is 90! Still lives alone, still drives sometimes. Amazing.
And then their sister, my mother. She is amazing - has had a great memory all her life. Starting to repeat herself now but nothing like Alzheimers.
You just never know.
My mom is 97 and just started medication.
At that age is is very difficult to distinguish Alzheimers from a normal aging process (brain scans aren’t reliable). Perhaps the plasma phospholipid test would be useful in doing so.
Not from an exchange if under 65 or from Medicare.
Just means a 3 year earlier trip to the Soylent Green factory.
I’m hoping green veggie juice and red wine save me.
At least it keeps me fairly happy!
It's just like registering your guns so the State can come and seize them. Seniors stupid enough to fall for this are signing their death warrants, as you say.
Does that mean marijuana juice? I'll have to look into that.
From all I have read, daily cardio exercise is your best prevention for Alzheimers and many other things. Increase your circulation as much as you can.

I’ve read so much about alzheimers. Yet I can’t find something in my parents’ lives that for sure played a part. My dad was thin and fit and my mom was more sedentary and overweight. They traveled, they read a lot, they were very smart.
Might be diet or exposure to chemicals. I don’t know.
I’ve already signed up Harry Reid, John McCain, Nancy Pelosi, John Conyers, Maxine Waters, Diane Feinstein, and just about any Democrat politician whose name I could remember.
Tests: just confirming what we know. Zombies!

I watched that video, interesting. I’ve heard that the rise in Alzheimer’s is partly due to lack of cholesterol in the diet and all the statin drugs.
