Young Republicans Find Fault With Elders on List of Social Issues
NY Times ^ | March 10, 2014 | Jonathan Martin

It was difficult to miss Ian Jacobson at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Known as Rooster, he was 33, with an ample beard, earrings and a towering orange-and-aqua spiked Mohawk haircut. But he also sported a pinstriped suit, French cuffs and a natty contrast collar.

Mr. Jacobson’s sartorial contradictions matched those of his politics: He is among the young Republicans who are pro-free market on fiscal issues and libertarian on social ones. While his views represent a potential growth wing for a party that is losing among other demographic groups, they also show an emerging tension with the older social conservatives at the core of the party’s base.

He had a ready assessment of his party’s opposition to same-sex marriage and legalization of marijuana: “It’s ridiculous, it’s time-consuming and it’s taking focus away from where it should be — on economic issues.”

Baraka Obama Um Um Um is the one who's made gay-marriage the #1 issue of the day.

Vent your outrage regarding the economy at The Man.

So the libertarian Republican voted for Obama because of Mitt’s social views?

No.

SoCons stayed home.

Will there ever be a point in the future where the GOP will start educating Generation.commers as to why conservatism -- fiscal AND social -- is the only way to ensure the continued survival of our Republic? You know, like President Reagan communicated with people, instead of talking over their heads? You know, how President Reagan reached out, connected with millions on the other side, and converted them to conservatism? You know, how President Reagan didn't sell out his conservative principles, in the name of Big Tent Pubbieism, which is nothing but selling out to the Left?

Sheesh...when is the GOP going to draw a line, and fight back -- and by fighting back, I mean teaching Generation.commers why conservatism is right, and Leftist, pro-homo crap is the downfall of our society? Holy cow...what a bunch of surrender monkeys.

The law is a teacher. Now that sodomy is a right there is a lot more of it if you believe the press. Maybe make sodomy a misdemeanor like traffic tickets and just give warnings and community sevice in aids wards and the neurologists who treat anal rectal problems caused by nerve damage.

Will wait for objections sure to come

While I don't care one bit what people look like -- there are plenty of good, conservative patriots out there with tattoos and piercings -- that guy is just another "look at me" hipster. Forwarding this article to DieHipster.com.

Will there ever be a point in the future where the GOP will decide keeping SoCons is not worth losing these type of Millenial voters?

You mean like the Massachusetts GOP has been doing for decades? If a social conservative declares, the state GOP will actually recruit a social liberal to run against him in the primary. It's working really great electorally -- the GOP holds 10% to 12% of the state legislature, zero statewide offices, and zero representation in the congressional delegation!

Its social anarchy that breeds poverty! And that in turn gives us the welfare state. This rooster degenerate needs to cut his hair and go back to the Daily Paul

Yep, libertarianism is a liberal voter creation machine.

In the case of Romney he was simply a piece of crap candidate nobody was excited about.

I held my nose and voted for Mitt...it didn't do a damn thing to help. I'm not playing this game anymore.

Mitt actually turned me off during his first run, when he made that soul-less comment regarding his sons' not volunteering for military service. Remember that? "I think my sons are serving their country by helping me get elected President". That one comment opened a brief look into the soul of Mitt Romney, i.e. nothing...zero, zip, nada. It's only about him.

If that's the best the Republicans can do, then I'm looking elsewhere.

I’ll worry about this when it’s reported by some honest media. . . NYT is much like CBS and not to be trusted.
