That is just awful. Of course since we can’t see the $#%@ing shooting who knows what really happened? I can’t understand half of what was being said but from the tone of voice that cop was panicked to the max.

NO $HIT! But just how is it dumb? Are you dumb because you believe that you’ve done nothing approaching being shot for and so you get out of your car? You mean today the cops can come up on you for a frigging expired tag and just blow you away for stepping out of your vehicle? The police are telling us something.
This is happening more and more, over and over.
THEY DON’T TRUST the very people that they are supposed to be protecting and serving.
THEY feel threatened by EVERYONE and they don’t believe that they have the ability to protect THEMSELVES.
The cop mistook the cane for a long gun.,ok, that’s believable. But why did he assume that an old man was going to shoot him? It’s not like the old man was going to get the jump on him! Did the cop think the old man was a better shot than he was?
Yes, being a cop is dangerous work, that’s the job! I choose not to run into burning buildings for a living, so therefore I don’t sign up to be a firefighter, if you cant handle the danger of being a cop, don’t become a cop!
It would appear to me that the only real gun control we need is for COPS!
The sheriff stated that it is their policy that the officers make it home safely, I have heard that excuse a lot over the years and think is the result of the training the police are given by the Feds. My question is doesn’t the public have a right to make it home safely also? It appears that if a cop gets scared all he cares about is his butt, even if it means killing someone who is innocent of any crime. They need to stop blaming the victim and look at their own policies.
Idiot cop did everything wrong. Should be fired, and sued. Cop didn't tell him to get back in the car. Cop started shooting before warning the old man. The cop just lost it, and blazed away. I feel sorry for the old man. Cops are cold blooded killers today, or idiots.

The cop’s reaction of sheer panic and sorrow was appropriate...if that’s the right way to say it.

HE panicked and shot and screamed to dispatcher “Shots fired, Shots fired!” - in a real panic, before he knew he shot an man with a cane.
If a cop is that afraid and panics that easy - he does not belong behind a badge and a gun.
And when did they finally call for an ambulance???
At least, he had the humanity to have remorse - maybe enough to hang up the gun, one could hope. He doesn't have the control or nerves for the job.
