I believe Chris Stark is with Gun Owners Alliance.
That's one of the biggest reasons I faded from the NRA. Their backbone is comprised of jello. My mentioned conversation was in regards to a privately owned BAR by another cat. 3 FFL holder. WE PREVAILED WITHOUT THE AID OF THE NRA. NUFF SAID.
I suppose compared to the NRA, GOA is fairly new. GOA was founded in 1975.
NRA was instrumental in getting a mental health bill passed in South Dakota. Way too many folks with no understanding of the long history of NRA and the dangers of mental health bills. NRA is behind the move to strengthen NICS in every area as a supposed means to protect gun rights.
NICS would be the National Instant Criminal Background Check System the place your gun store calls to get your purchase approved, or disapprove and they are all in for expansion of background checks What is even more surprising is no mention of the one group that does not compromise nagr.org
Shall not be infringed covers things pretty well in my mind, so why do we need a background check for making people prohibited persons? Why has the NRA been around since 1871 and since 1934 has been a witness if not a participant in every egregious unconstitutional Federal infringement of the means to protect ourselves? Why, Why, Why?
As you have so eloquently have stated, it is time for Al and Jesse to move on, stop quibbling away what is God given and standing for everything that comes out of the Federal pipeline that is designed to remove as many folks as humanly possible from the roles of those who still have the “right” to bare arms. Believe me the spelling is intentional.
This thread is probably already in the vault of old threads, but at least I got to say my two cents worth.
Between the hours of my full time job and running a gun shop I guess this version of GOA evaded me. I’m retired from my “full time” job now and just spend my spare time in my shop or in the back yard shooting.
The NRA may have done some good things but they have failed us on many. When you are dealing with the second amendment there IS NO COMPROMISE. How in the hell does over 20,000 laws regarding "gun control" get on the books? Many of them were created by "feel good ideology". I sure would appreciate an answer from someone.
More proof that the Republican Party is useless.
Only useless to conservatives. If you're a liberal or a "moderate" then they're not too bad.
You’ll never convince NRA members that they have been “had” any more than you will persuade the little Republican primary voters that they too have long been snookered by “the leadership.”
I never thought of them that way, but I agree with you.
Who says they were principled to start with? Some are, but I know enough current and former members of the GA general assembly to know that those who are truly principled hang on to their core beliefs and don't dive into the government mentality once they get elected. The late Bobby Franklin was a close personal friend, and he NEVER lost sight of who he was. Likewise Brian Joyce.
I’m afraid we made a big effing mistake when we elected Nathan Deal. He managed to shut down legislation last week that would have banned Common Core. The guy is no conservative. I feel embarrassed that I voted for him.
Legislation to institute constitutional carry has been held in committee for a long time now. You would think with both state houses controlled by republicans they would have passed it by now.
Once again conservatives were faced with the lesser of two evils. Would anyone with a brain really want to vote for Roy Barnes?
At the time I thought Nathan Deal would be a good Governor. After the election the next thing I know he’s pushing SPLOST. Then its been one thing after another.
I was a member of a local gun club that required NRA membership as a condition of club membership. I inquired about what the club got from the NRA and was told that their insurance was considerably lower than anything else available. Of course the cutsey little awards and patches to be added to individual shooters vests also helped.
I resigned anyhow... Right after my NRA membership lapsed.
I know Roy Barnes slightly, having dealt with him when he was in the legislature. I know what a liberal idealogue the guy is. Believe me when I say that Deal is your typical backstabbing Republican, but Barnes would have been like having the late and totally unlamented Maynard Jackson as governor.
OH yeh no argument there. Roy Barnes was the Anti-Christ. When he lost to Sonny Purdue I stayed up til midnight to watch them talk him down off the roof. I loathe that guy for the midnight vote to get rid of the flag.
I miss Zell Miller. The only time in my life I ever voted for a Democrat. He was a better republican than most republicans are.
