Theories on missing flight range from plausible to absurd

A week after Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished, theories of the plane's fate continue to spread across websites, social media, news outlets and official sources -- ranging from the plausible to the absurd.

The leading theory is foul play. While earlier this week outlets reported that officials appeared skeptical that human interference caused the plane's disappearance, by Friday authorities were putting more stock into the theory that someone intentionally altered the flight's course, and that whoever it was knew how and where to fly a plane.

Who were the pilots of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370? As to where the flight ended up, theories have ranged from the Indian Ocean to the South China Sea, with increasing attention being placed on the former. Here's a list of current knowns, along with clues and theories, some more serious than others, about what happened to the Boeing 777 jetliner:

I’ve been thinking about the gold angle today, it fits Occam’s Razor requirements better than any other.

A ton of gold doesn’t take up much space. But the guys moving it into cargo would certainly talk about it.

I’ve always felt this story had a bootlegging feel about it. As to where China bought it, all these gold-buying shops popping up everywhere are melting it down *somewhere*.

A nuclear attack of some sort somewhere? I guess if that is the case, we will find out what happened. Of course, it will be a little late.

I’m guessing that there was more than just the pilots and those onboard the plane involved in this heist.

There were people on the ground that would have had a hand in making sure this plane disappeared electronically and kept search efforts concentrated to the east in the Sea of China while the plane was making its getaway in the opposite direction.

I’m guessing that part of the plan was to drop to a low altitude and dump artifacts from the plane that would have been picked up by searchers who would then be still pursuing the theory of a plane crash — but they were unable to pull that one off or just screwed up.

The pilot who stole this plane and murdered all on board wanted one of two things:
1.) Cargo (gold)
2.) The aircraft itself

If it’s the aircraft, it could only be used for terrorism. Packed with explosives and sent off to do its worst.

I hope Israel has its eyes on the Dimona nuclear facility. It is the closest high value western target to where this plane was headed.

The more I think about it, the less likely I find the gold theory. If a pilot stole tons of gold, he would never get to enjoy his riches.

This pilot was a very religious and devout Muslim, so he could have been persuaded to put this jet in the hands of some really bad folks. We will find out soon enough - I hope that the military defense folks are thinking about this scenario.

Whoever did this already stole a 250million dollar aircraft and murdered all of its passengers. That person is an expert pilot and a Muslim. I do not think that this mass murder was the end game as he could have simply plunged into the sea if that was his plan. This aircraft flew somewhere for 7 hours.

pretty sad when UFOs and the Bermuda Triangle are three and four on the most plausible list

my wife heard one Thurs. late nite radio. that a veteran pilot thought if he were the culprit with his knowledge he would: 1. depressurize the cabin to kill everyone . 2. land it somewhere on a remote WW2 island airbase . 3. use the plane later for the( USA).

He also theorized all 240+ are dead and were just in the way. All they want is the plane. My added theory is: do not search for "Malaysia Airlines" plane.... look at all Boeing 777s, especially those with an Earl Scheib paint job sneaking in behind a legit inbound int'l flight in the near future.

If the plane was hijacked for a purpose, its reason will be known soon enough with emphasis placed on the word “soon”.

One cannot hide the plane for long. Plenty of satellites are looking for it right now.

The other day I saw a list of crew and passengers by nationality. Have the investigators identified the alleged nationalities of the two passengers with the fake passports? I noticed there were two Iranians on board, and the plane was headed West. Perhaps this is part of some Iranian plot against Israel, Iraq, or Europe.

That's because pretty much any conceivable theory has been covered.

Malaysia Airlines Passengers With Stolen Passports Identified

Investigators have identified the two passengers who purportedly boarded the plane using stolen passports. Authorities investigating the flight revealed Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad, a 19-year-old Iranian who was headed to Germany to be with his mother, as one of the individuals that used a stolen passport to board the Beijing-bound aircraft, USA Today reported. According to Malaysian Chief Inspector General Khalis Abu Bakar, Mehrdad’s mother was aware of her son’s travels and use of a stolen passport.

The other individual who used a stolen passport to board the jet has been identified as Iranian national Delavar Seyed Mohammad Reza, age 29.

Authorities are still investigating Mohammad Reza’s background but a source has corroborated the notion that the two intended to immigrate to Europe. According to the BBC, a young Iranian in Kuala Lumpur claims his school friend and another Iranian man stayed with him before boarding the Malaysia Airlines flight. He said they planned on settling in Europe.

“This pilot was a very religious and devout Muslim”

http://www.youtube.com/user/catalinapby1

You mean the pilot who on his youtube channel was a big fan of the militant atheist Richard Dawkins and especially liked Dawkins’ The God Delusion?

“The Root of All Evil, later retitled The God Delusion, is a television documentary written and presented by Richard Dawkins in which he argues that humanity would be better off without religion or belief in God.”

Thank you very much. The fact that the only two Iranians on the plane were young males using illegal passports should be a huge red flag.

Which pilot? I’ve always thought the younger pilot was involved, but not the older one.

Could’ve led to a cockpit struggle, causing erratic movement of the plane for a while.

This plane is worth $250,000,000. Why not a straight up theft? Fly the plane somewhere remote. Offload pax (kill them?) and refuel. Fly away and sell the plane or part it out.

Complex, yes but a big payday.

With lying for the sake of propagating the faith a big thing in Islam, it wouldn’t be entirely beyond the pale.

Dawkins has a thing against Christians.
